One idler completely failed. Bearings disintegrated, vehicle had to be towed home. Destroyed idler destroyed accessory belt as well. While replacing belt and idler, it was discovered that the other idler on the engine was not far behind. These idlers were VERY difficult to find due to them being part of the 2.8L VM Motori diesel engine. In their infinite wisdom (of cost-cutting...ahem), Chrysler built the Liberty CRD vehicles without an in-tank lift pump. The fuel is drawn out of the tank by the injection pump which places the entire fuel line in a vacuum rather than under pressure. If any leaks exist within the fuel line, the engine will start, suck air, and stall. The filter head must then be primed using the pump/bleed procedure before the vehicle will start again. Sasquatch Parts makes a retrofit kit that allows you to install a lift pump in the tank (complete with necessary wiring harness).
