2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4dr SUV

turbocharged 215hp 3.0L V6 Diesel 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range

106000 mi

US $215
leaking rear pinion seal replaced. Dealership couldn't find cause for vibration at 40 mph and transmission slippage at cold temperatures though.
142000 mi

US $2000
Front right axle seal was bad for a while and who knows how long front diff was running with virtually no oil. Rear pinion seal was bad and replaced a few years ago, but when changing rear diff fluid, clearly water was present and possibly for years in there. So as a preventative maintenance item, both the front and rear differentials were rebuilt (new ring & pinion, seals, front diff mount, rear axles). In reality all parts actually still looked good, but I wasn't going to chance it to tow things. Unfortunately the rear end ring and pinion whine was not resolved. it is definitely quiter, but still very pronounced with the Chrysler 8.25" diff. Possibly a higher-end R&P kit might have fixed it, but functionality and cheaper costs are my priority with this vehicle.

129000 mi Safety recall on 4wd software component allowing it to engage when switch is activated.
50300 mi

US $300
Transmission coolant lines leaking. No easy way to reach them so to ensure Chrysler will honor the lifetime engine/tranny warranty paid dealer to replace vs independent shop simpler fix. NOT covered by service contract since a "hose", hmmm.
78000 mi The seal in the rear differential where the driveshaft and ujoint go through was leaking fluid. Luckily this was caught based on leakage on a recently cleaned garage floor and was covered by the Chrysler lifetime engine/trans/drivetrain warr
86200 mi Rear end CR2013R XLE, 3:73 ratio; gears overhauled for third time. Apparently a very troublesome rear end design undersized for my 4.7 liter engine.

87000 mi

US $100
December 6. was out of state. Service four wheel drive system warning went on; would not go into neutral for towing. Could have been a software issue. Sold vehicle.

6-cylinder automatic AWD

39000 mi Purchased Jeep with 38,500 miles on it. First trip out the engine just died. Pulled to side of road, cut vehicle off, restarted and it went fine, then it decided to shut down again for no reason. Returned to Dealer! Only had it 7 days!!!
41000 mi Problem persisted through 3 mechanics until I found the solution in the UK myself. The band around the top of the shifter breaks and falls into the assembly, where it hits against the limp module, causing the vehicle to act as if it's in neutral.
