2010 Mazda Mazda5
Engine not specified
74400 mi
C $1057
Right Front Strut $366.
Rear Trailing Arm Bushings $557.
Car has had clunking noises from rear suspension. Dealer diagnosed bad strut, recommended replacement. A second opinion from a trusted repair shop found no functional problem with the strut/shocks, no loose parts or fasteners, but did acknowledge the noise. We believe the noises are a "feature" not a "bug" of the Mazda 5 suspension. We know this is a common problem with the Mazda 5 suspension / struts, so we had kept our ears open to it. The fact is, the struts have been more or less noisy since we got the car three years ago at around 30K miles. We believe the strut design is bad from the standpoint that the struts can get noisy. It otherwise functions the way it should, absorbing shocks fine, leaking no oil.
