CEL kept coming on. After a good bit of investigating, the Subaru people were able to determine that it was a very rare issue with the PZEV and manual transmission and the software glitch appears to be unfixable. Replaced with another Outback.

26660 mi Car intermittently refused to start. Finally brought in, but dealer found no fault. Replaced "starter module", will see if problem is fixed.
