2013 Hyundai Elantra 4dr Sedan

148-horsepower 1.8L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD

17000 mi Fuel gauge was giving incorrect reading and the car ran out of fuel when the gauge showed that there was still 1/4 of a tank of fuel.
19000 mi The battery became dead and I had to be towed to the Hyundai dealer. It was under warrantee and I was not charged
34200 mi I had a dead battery and had to buy a new one at Sam's Club. The dealer said it was a range switch and replaced it under the warranty
46000 mi

US $175
I was unable to start the car with a jump in a restaurant parking lot. The next morning the AAA was able to get me started and I drove to Coconut Creek Hyundai. They tested the car and said that the battery will not hold a charge. This is the third battery in four years, and the service writer said "with all the electronics that modern cars have, the batteries don't last. I said that we just came from an hour drive on a turnpike, and it was completely dead, with no warning or slow cranking. He told me that is the nature of the "new batteries". I do not believe this story, and will never buy another Hyundai
19000 mi Backup camera malfunction. It was replaced.
48000 mi

US $300
Couple of lights out. TPMS kept coming on when tires were at correct pressure after being driven about 20 miles. Error cleared several times & kept coming back.
38000 mi

US $220
Oem battery was failing
62000 mi

US $200
Had to replace battery. Before four year normal life of battery
21700 mi AC not cooling - leaking high-pressure hose. No parts in stock, apparently they are finding this a common problem. Replacement hose was ordered and installed the following week. Another Elantra was having same issue fixed the same day.
45615 mi Vehicle died at side of road, white smoke/steam from under hood. Towed to dealer, although it may have made it under own steam, I was out of town, of course, so wife was driving at time. Problem was AC discharge blow off valve. Turns out that this was all caused by a patch to software from May (Recall #60C113, according to invoice) that the dealer applied during routine maintenance earlier in year. The dealer knew what the problem was right away, have seen other elantras with AC issues since patch. They Reversed patch, recharged AC, and ok since.
112000 mi Took car in for recommended maintenance change of transmission fluid and other small items. Car came back with the paddle shifter inoperative, and the air conditioner locked on. Dealer refused to acknowledge the problem was theirs.
19000 mi Inoperable rearview mirror (auto dimming, garage door opener, compass). During repair of steering, a ground wring was disconnected. it took 2 days for the dealer to figure the ground was never reconnected.
2000 mi Remote Start Module Failure
96080 mi Turn signal controller was not working properly. When high beams are on, turning on fog lights shuts them off (that is proper operation). The problem is that, in that scenario, while driving with fog lights on, using the turn signal (left or right) would switch off the fog lights and turn the high beams back on. The defect was noticed at ~20,000 miles but I never pursued it until I was up in miles and beyond warranty. Kudos for Hyundai dealer in Cuyahoga Falls, OH for accepting my report to the dealer in Columbus as sufficient evidence and making a repair under warranty.
38000 mi Steering wheel audio controls malfunction
44000 mi Switch in steering wheel controls
54000 mi Fitting came loose/unthreaded, was replaced and reattached.
68000 mi

US $190
Got an oil change at the dealer; they said the battery failed some test, so I went to O'Reilly's and had them replace the battery.
