71000 mi Engine short block needs to be replaced. Update September 2018: the dealership still has the car. Current expected completion date is 9/30. There was a knocking in the engine at low speeds on acceleration. The car did not need to be towed. I made an appointment, and upon inspection, they would not let me drive it anymore, stated that the engine needed replaced, but they did not say what had failed.
116000 mi

116000 mi

US $1150
transmission and motor mounts
79000 mi Water pump needed replacement , but not in stock.
94240 mi Engine had the Hyundai engine knock. Dealer diagnose noise and need to replace the short block. Did tear down and inspect engine with pictures taken to submit to Hyundai Canada warranty department for authorization to replace under goodwill warranty. Reapir approved and now waiting on replacement engine to complete the repair.
94860 mi removed engine and replaced with new reman engine
16120 mi exhaust system was repalced
46700 mi Don't know the exact problem, but it was emissions related and covered under the warranty. Check engine light is coming on intermittently now, so the same problem may be comming back.
56000 mi Warranty replacement of oxygen sensors...second time in less that 15000 miles
18000 mi At random times, extreme shaking while idling at stop light. AC on or off, didn't matter. Dealer said they couldn't find anything. Checked engine mount, scanned for codes, and checked throttle body. Got worse over time. Reported by some other owners.
The car starts OK,But makes a grinding noise after that, Then stops? Only does it in the first time I start it. After that once in the morning it will not go it anymore!!
22200 mi Had TSB 14-FL-006 performed to try to fix an intermittently rough idle. As I drove home from the dealer the idle was smooth, but the check engine light came on. I will have to return to the dealer for further investigation into this matter.
37200 mi Car would not start. Fuel pump needed to be replaced. This was done under warranty. There was no cost to me.

2013 Hyundai Elantra 4dr Sedan

148-horsepower 1.8L I4 6-speed manual FWD

2480 mi

C $2000
Hyundai would not cover towing because car more than 100 kms from a Hyundai dealership. Found computer system was fried. Had to wait 8 days for replacement and flights to and from Sudbury at own expense. Incorrect part. Had to replace electrical computer, solenoids, fuses and part of engine wiring harness. Car had to be retimed, replace spark plugs and fuel injectors. Hyundai unwilling to warranty. Car has only 4000 kms.
9920 mi Exhaust system leak. When driving the car for long periods of time with the windows closed you can detect an exhaust smell in the cabin.
13600 mi

C $236
Thermostat was stuck open and not heating the cabin. Took to three different Hyundai dealers who only scoped the car and said there was nothing wrong with it. Took to my private mech who services my Mazda. He fixed it.
19840 mi Exhaust leak was a poorly tightened clamp by Hyundai. My private mechanic tightened it and no more leak.
13020 mi I had the dealer inspect a loud ticking from the top of the engine. It sounded like a valve that was out of adjustment, its a single prominent consistent loud click that changes with engine speed. They said it was a fuel injector - normal.
19500 mi 2nd complaint regarding loud ticking sound from cylinder head, sounds like valves have no oil supply. Goes away after 20 mins. Dealer said it is a fuel injector and is normal. I disagree since it goes away after 20mins.
20460 mi Replaced failed o2 sensor under warranty
22320 mi Still ticking from the cylindet head, brought in a 3rd and last time, they said it was fuel injectors. (I disconnected each injector one at a time and the ticming was still there) I think its a lack of oil supply problem to the valvetraon. Now waiting for the engine to seize as Hyundai is replacing engine blocks on the 1.8's as they fail. Stick with Honda or Toyota.
34000 mi

US $145
engine stalls at idle speed. Engine light on. First diagnostic was the battery was bad and replaced it. Problem came back and we decided to go to another dealer. This dealer kept the car for almost two weeks had to work inside the engine, order parts from Korea.
34000 mi Major work done inside the engine replaced CVT valves, timing.
