The cam chain housing was weeping oil. The Mazda dealer found this around 45,000 miles and advised me that it would cost around $850 to repair. They didn't say it was covered under warranty. Since the oil wasn't dripping and the oil level wasn't going down, I declined to have the repair done. I returned to the dealer after the warranty was up (just after 50,000 miles) and the dealer said they would fix it under warranty. They said that the hydraulic tensioner for the serpentine belt was leaking. I told them to fix the slight leak in the cam chain cover, and also replace the hydraulic serpentine belt tensioner, and replace the serpentine belt while they were at it. The replacement of the hydraulic serpentine belt tensioner and the new serpentine belt cost me around $210. |
