TrueDelta Reviews the Reliability And Durability of the Audi A6

Audi A6 Reliability And Durability: Neutral
YearComment
2016 I wavered on whether to include reliability among the reasons not to buy an Audi A6, and ultimately did not because the issues here are largely potential ones. As it ages, the 2016 A6 could prove troublesome. The 2012s, after a good first few years, have been requiring more than the average number of repairs lately. But over the past year the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 all have been good. Will this change as they near the end of the 4/50 factory warranty? Perhaps, but this remains to be seen. Or not. In general, recent German cars tend to be good for the first four to six years--the latter the point at which CPO (certified pre-owed) warranties end. I often suggest that there are two smart ways to own a German car: under warranty, or if you're willing and able to perform most repairs yourself. And the Cadillac CTS? We have a limited amount of data on the current car. What we do have suggests that it is more troublesome than the Audi. full 2016 Audi A6 review

At the 60,000 milemark the car started to have mechanical problems, in particualr with the fuels system. I went through 5 fuel pumps, both hiigh and low pressure in a 1.5 year time frame. The dealership and a very reputable independant shop could not figure out what was wrong with the fuel system and why the car kept burning out the fuel pump. full 2005 Audi A6 review

Ahh, yes... I had some major problems at first. But, mostly covered under (CPO) extended warranty. The famous Audi coils! (Being replaced under recall next week.) Stupidly, no block heater so it failed to start - never had that with a Honda... full 2004 Audi allroad review

Once you've got miles on this car, you are going to pay for the problems you will ultimately encounter. While we loved the ride, we felt like we were constantly addressing issues with this car. The most frequent and costly issues were related to the air suspension that it uses. It is prone to leakage, which can be at the central hub or in any of the lines out to the bags. Other issues included CV boots, axles, wheel bearings, alignment (difficulties getting proper adjustment due to configuration with frame, and locking of adjusters), control arms, cabin air temp computer, window switches, window regulators, inexplicable roasting of battery cable, EGT sensors (expensive and relatively useless). Sunroof drains often clog, particularly troublesome, and should have been avoidable based on experience simply by increasing the line size. One of the most MORONIC design aspects is the inclusion of drain plug cones under the battery beneath the cowling at the rear of the engine compartment. They are unobservable and relatively inaccessible, yet are treated as a maintenance item. When they plug, which they will do, the result is that water coming down your windshield will fill the trough beneath the cowling, and will overflow into the cabin air intake, flooding your floor and damaging the transmission controller module located beneath the passenger seat. full 2003 Audi allroad review
