Audi A6 / S6 Reliability and Durability: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2008 4dr Sedan supercharged 333hp 3.0L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
This car has never let me sitting and would hope not for the money paid except when i let the gas run to low and was a minute from a gas station. The paint seems to scratch very easily which i have my car in a garage and somehow find new scratches.
2006 4dr Sedan supercharged 333hp 3.0L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
The 2006 model continues to get good reviews in Consumer Reports and other publications. My experience thus far as been excellent -- have only had one item repaired in 18 months of ownership as I bought the car used.

2006 4dr Sedan supercharged 333hp 3.0L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
Broke down (transmission twice and fuel system once) three times and had to be towed back to dealership for stays of three weeks, two weeks, and one week.
2006 4dr Sedan supercharged 333hp 3.0L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
VERY expensive to fix and maintain
2005 4dr Sedan supercharged 333hp 3.0L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
At the 60,000 milemark the car started to have mechanical problems, in particualr with the fuels system. I went through 5 fuel pumps, both hiigh and low pressure in a 1.5 year time frame. The dealership and a very reputable independant shop could not figure out what was wrong with the fuel system and why the car kept burning out the fuel pump.
2004 4dr Sedan turbocharged 220hp 2.0L I4
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
Owned the car for a year or so. Thermostat stuck shut, differential gear whine started, gas gap failed, small leak around coolant res., LCD screen in car starting to loose pixels.
2003 4dr Sedan supercharged 333hp 3.0L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
they seem to have minds of their own some days..electrical gremlins occasionally
2002 4dr Sedan 172-horsepower 2.4L I4
6-speed shiftable CVT FWD
In general, the car is very reliable and durable as long as it is maintained properly, however when something does go wrong it can be VERY expensive to repair.

Audi allroad Reliability and Durability: Cons

2004 4dr Wagon Ahh, yes... I had some major problems at first. But, mostly covered under (CPO) extended warranty. The famous Audi coils! (Being replaced under recall next week.) Stupidly, no block heater so it failed to start - never had that with a Honda...
2004 4dr Wagon Repairs are expensive because of both part and labor costs.
2003 4dr Wagon Once you've got miles on this car, you are going to pay for the problems you will ultimately encounter. While we loved the ride, we felt like we were constantly addressing issues with this car. The most frequent and costly issues were related to the air suspension that it uses. It is prone to leakage, which can be at the central hub or in any of the lines out to the bags. Other issues included CV boots, axles, wheel bearings, alignment (difficulties getting proper adjustment due to configuration with frame, and locking of adjusters), control arms, cabin air temp computer, window switches, window regulators, inexplicable roasting of battery cable, EGT sensors (expensive and relatively useless). Sunroof drains often clog, particularly troublesome, and should have been avoidable based on experience simply by increasing the line size. One of the most MORONIC design aspects is the inclusion of drain plug cones under the battery beneath the cowling at the rear of the engine compartment. They are unobservable and relatively inaccessible, yet are treated as a maintenance item. When they plug, which they will do, the result is that water coming down your windshield will fill the trough beneath the cowling, and will overflow into the cabin air intake, flooding your floor and damaging the transmission controller module located beneath the passenger seat.
2002 4dr Wagon I have heard and read bad things about the reliability of Audi automatics.
