BMW 7-Series Pros and Cons

2006 BMW 7-Series

4dr Sedan 360-horsepower 4.8L V8 6-speed shiftable automatic RWD

Why the BMW 7-Series?

Exterior styling: Simple and good looking

Handling: Cannot be beat or duplicated by any other vehicle

Ride smoothness: It is smooth on all road conditions and safe

Quietness: I like a quiet car. This BMW is quiet!

Reliability & durability: No problems, always ready to go full out or just to the grocery store. Does not wear out or deteriorate.

2004 BMW 7-Series

4dr Sedan 325-horsepower 4.4L V8 6-speed shiftable automatic RWD

Why the BMW 7-Series?

Front seat comfort: High quality leather. Extreme adjustability for driver's seat, head rest, lumbar support and variable length cushion. The front seat has 3-level adjustable heated cushions and 3-level adjustable air-conditioned seats. It also has a massage feature.

Exterior styling: It is elegant, simple beautiful lines. It is not overly showy or ornate

Ride smoothness: It soaks up bumps and goes through major road undulations with great aplomb.

Powertrain performance: This is more of a luxury car but it has tremendous get up & go when you floor it. The engine makes a very good sounding rumble. The fat torque curve is obvious when accelerating from a stand still and passing on the hiway.

Safety & braking: The brakes are incredibly smooth and powerful.

Why Not the BMW 7-Series?

Fuel economy: I just bought it so I don't know my individual fuel economy but the guy before me was averaging 12.6 L/100kms.

Control design: It is very difficult to control all the features of the car through the i-drive which is very non-intuitive.

Insurance & depreciation: The depreciation curve is pretty steep for large vehicles like this unfortunately. I bought mine used so I benefitted from this.

Reliability & durability: It doesn't have a great reputation for reliability and the repairs can be very expensive. My car had no isssues noted on its pre-purchase mechanical inspection.

Interior styling: The dashboard definitely not the best laid-out in the class and others look much better.

2001 BMW 7-Series

4dr Sedan 282-horsepower 4.4L V8 5-speed shiftable automatic RWD

Why the BMW 7-Series?

Ride smoothness: THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY SMOOTH, SAME AS A MERCEDES OR LEXUS, IN SPITE OF BEING ABLE TO HANDLE LIKE A SPORTS CAR.

Quietness: DROP DEAD QUIET

Exterior styling: BEST LOOKING CAR ON THE ROAD TODAY. I WOULD BUY IT ALL OVER AGAIN WITH ZERO MILES, IF THAT WERE POSSIBLE.

Handling: BMW HAS COMBINED PASSENGER COMFORT WITH SPORTS CAR HANDLING. MOST OF THE BMW'S I HAVE OWNED HAVE THIS "GLUED TO THE ROAD" FEEL, AND CAN TAKE TURNS AT HIGH SPEEDS WITH CONFIDENCE AND NO BODY LEAN, BODY ROLL, OR SKIDDING.

Powertrain performance: THE NEAR 300 HORSE POWER ENGINE, WITH THE "SPORT" TRANSMISSION ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL PROVIDES IT WITH QUICK ACCELERATION AND PLENTY OF TORQUE. NOT MANY CARS CAN OUT PERFORM THIS CAR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS TEN YEARS OLD.

Why Not the BMW 7-Series?

Insurance & depreciation: SADLY, AS THE MILEAGE INCREASES, THE VALUE OF THE CAR DECREASES AT A HIGHER PERCENTAGE THAN LESS EXPENSIVE AND MORE RELIABLE CARS LIKE HONDAS, LEXUS, TOYOTA.

Materials & workmanship: SUN EXPOSURE HAS CAUSED SOME INTERIOR PLASTIC WARPAGE, AND, OF COURSE, ANY AND ALL SERVICING IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER CARS (UNLESS YOU HAVE A MASERATI), BUT CAR REPAIRS IN GENERAL ARE BECOMING MORE EXPENSIVE FOR ALL CARS AS TIME GOES ON.

Reliability & durability: MANY "WEAR AND TEAR" ITEMS HAVE OCCURRED, INCLUDE HAVING TO REPLACE THE COOLING SYSTEM, REPLACING THE BELTS AND HOSES (WHICH ARE NOT CHEAP) AND AND MOST RECENTLY REPLACING THE REAR BALL JOINTS AND THE ENGINE GASKET SEALS
