What Our Members Are Saying about the Reliability And Durability of the Porsche Boxster

Porsche Boxster Reliability And Durability: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2005 2dr Convertible 240-horsepower 2.7L H6
5-speed shiftable automatic RWD
Consumer Reports rated it a Best Buy with better than average repair history. Owned for 3 years (bought new) and have had no major problems. Even for minor problems, if >1 day in the shop, they either gave me a loaner or a free rental car. full 2005 Porsche Boxster review
Porsche Boxster Reliability And Durability: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2008 2dr Convertible 295-horsepower 3.4L H6
6-speed manual RWD
prone to repair issues full 2008 Porsche Boxster review
2002 2dr Convertible 217-horsepower 2.7L H6
5-speed shiftable automatic RWD
these cars have a history of not getting high mileage without having major engine problems. and the cost to rplce the motor is more than the value of the car after repairs. so far I have not had major problems myself. full 2002 Porsche Boxster review
2002 2dr Convertible 217-horsepower 2.7L H6
5-speed manual RWD
No complaints so far.Rumors of 2000 to 2008 motors have a 27 percent chance of blowing due to faulty design of a two piece crankshaft. However many ,many Boxsters have up to 175,000 on them full 2002 Porsche Boxster review
2001 2dr Convertible 250-horsepower 3.2L H6
6-speed manual RWD
The M96 engine is known to virtually explode due to the IMS bearing issue. this can be avoided with (1) much more frequent oil changes than manufacturer recommends, plus analysis of oil and filter aftert every change. 5k miles instead of 15k miles, even with Mobil 1. There are after market upgrades to avoid the IMS failures. This can be done by most any independent Porsche mechanic and there are multiple products on the market. I recommend L&N Engineering's solutions 10 to 1 over any other fix, although it is the more expensive option. If you plan to buy a used Boxster, pre 2009, budget an extra 3000 for an IMS shafte upgrade or ceramic bearing replacement. You can then have years of trouble free engine performance. There is also a product called the guardian that will give you advance warning of an impending failure, but i RECOMMEND JUST GETTING IT FIXED! full 2001 Porsche Boxster review
