Around town it's not great, but out on the open road mileage almost doubles. |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 260hp 2.0L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
In mixed driving I get 25 - 26 MPG, even with 75 mph stints and popping in and out of traffic. In pure highway, gets 28+ at 70+ |
| 2009 | 2dr Coupe turbocharged 260hp 2.0L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
The fuel economy is very good considering the performance available. I typically get better than 25MPG with a fair bit of city driving and fairly heavy throttle. |
| 2008 | 4dr Sedan 148-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
Better than most North American cars. Lower carbon footprint. Cheaper to run. |
| 2007 | 2dr Coupe 173-horsepower 2.4L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
Under good highway driving conditions the Cobalt can go 700km on a single tank, but even in harsh conditions fuel economy is reasonable. |
| 2007 | 2dr Coupe 148-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
Most neighbors report 35 mpg on hyway. here we do mostly high spped highway. |
| 2007 | 2dr Coupe 173-horsepower 2.4L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
I like that the 2.4L engine is able to put out significantly more power than the 2.2L and keep the same economy. The SS 2.4L is pretty quick and fun to drive and I still get 28 mpg on average just gunning around town with a lead foot and about 20% high |
| 2007 | 2dr Coupe 148-horsepower 2.2L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
While not as impressive as some of its competitors, the Cobalt is still good for low to mid 30s if driven properly. |
| 2007 | 2dr Coupe 148-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
34 MPG observed - and this from a roomy stylish car that cost me less that 15,000 |
| 2007 | 2dr Coupe 148-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
While the Cobalt may only get 23mpg in real city driving with a heavy foot, it is still relatively easy to achieve 28mpg in the city and 35+mpg on freeway. |
| 2006 | 2dr Coupe 171-horsepower 2.4L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
very good on gas for the 171 hp |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan 145-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
over 36 MPG |
| 2006 | 2dr Coupe 145-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
34mpg average. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan 171-horsepower 2.4L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
31 MPG on the highway which is better then the EPA suggests you can get with the SS sedan. While I do hit a lot of traffic going to and from work I still can get about 27MPG. |
| 2005 | 4dr Sedan 145-horsepower 2.2L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
in excess of 36mpg |

The best documented rating I could find when looking indicated it still did not rival Fiesta. |
