Introduction

The 2014 Charger RT AWD is one of my favorite vehicles to date. I drive it about 50% of the time and every time I get in, I remember why I bought it all over again.

2014 Dodge Charger Love Letter

The car looks muscular, agressive and in AWD sport trim, mean. I like the look.

The interior quality is pretty good for a sub 40,000 dollar car. There is ambient lighting everywhere and plenty of soft touch surfaces. The seats are firm and supportive and have 12 way power and 4 way lumbar adjustments for both front seats as well as heated front and rear seats. The gauges are easy to read and the Uconnect works flawlessly.

The engine and transmission are where this vehicle shine. Power is instant, forceful and effortless. The transmission always has the right gear and changes are smooth and quick.

AWD gives this vehicle surefooted handling in all situations including snow with stock tires. It takes some of the fun out of being able to powerslide, but its worth it to me to give up the powerslides and 1 mpg when the AWD is active for the handling aspect.

Conclusion

Its a gas hog, on the highway when the AWD is disengaged it gets maybe 23 mpg on a long trip. In the winter on the highway it gets maybe 16 mpg beause the AWD is locked on at any temp below 41 degrees.

You have no control over the AWD system and it has a very complicated logic so without studying the factory service manual you might think it should be on and its not or vise versa, when all the time its working correctly.

Its big, much bigger than you realize so you can't just park it anywhere if you don't want it hit.

There is a blind spot and unless you pay the extra to step up to the R/T Max or find one with the electroinics package (which I've never seen on a lot), no blind spot monitoring is available and it would be appreciated. That could be said of many cars on the road today though, the Challenger is much worse.
