Introduction

Something to think about

Reviewed: 2011 Ram 1500

4dr Extended Cab 6.5ft bed 215-horsepower 3.7L V6 4-speed automatic RWD

Why the 2011 Ram 1500?

Reliability & durability

I had my truck for only 11 months. The motor was solid but the electronics were garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Ride smoothness

Awesome ride quality.

Quietness

The motor was a small v6 but it had good sound to it. And road noise was minimal.

Brand reputation & image

I was disappointed that this truck didn't meet my expectations but my dealer was very generous. They paid my remaining loan and traded me for a 2012 model basically takeing my truck back and (without charging me) put what I paid on my old truck to my new one that made it possible for me to upgrade big time. I saved over five grand towards my new truck. My new loan is 21k instead of 38k for my new Ram sport. I'm still scratching my head on this. Traded my 2011 Ram ST V6 ext cab. Base price at 26k new. And bought this new truck 2012 Ram 1500 sport hemi V8 Crew cab. Base price 36k. My current loan is at $21,300. Someone wasn't paing attention.

Past personal experience

I've owned dodge before and they were good reliable work horses.

Why Not the 2011 Ram 1500?

Reliability & durability

Now my family builds dodge so it hurts me to say this truck was a big disappointment. I had my truck for only 11 months. This truck was put in the shop so many time for the same things I was reluctant to even consider another Chrysler product. My ignition switch constantly stopped working in the cold months. My transmission had repair work twice (something about a pump) before being fully replaced with a brand new one. My doors made horrid squeaking while being opened or closed. The motor on the other hand was solid but the electronics were garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Front seat support & comfort

This truck inset made for comfort. The headrests intrude big time on this. If your going on long trips in this truck remove the headrests it actually more comfortable that way.

Powertrain performance

I know it's a V6 but their should still be some better standard in a truck of this class. With only 215 hp going up hills with a load was like pulling teeth. The steering was more car like than truck. I hated that. The v6 felt cheap and was gas crazy. Filled it up at least twice a week from empty.

Materials & workmanship

What can I say nothing but plastic fantastic crap EVERYWHERE. During the first week of ownership there was a water leak coming from my back window there was a hole under my rear window where sealant wasn't fully placed. I had a rattling in the rear end of the truck that the dealer fixed and then was back a week later.

Brand reputation & image

I told my self that just because my family builds theses trucks doesn't mean I should pretend everything is running good and I was almost at the point that I hated my truck.

Conclusion

Keep a Solid state of mind in this truck.

Iam the owner of a 2012 LONGHORN, loaded with factory upgrades and and after market upgrades. This is my 4th Ram and will never consider another brand. Great truck . In the pastI had 3Chevy Silverados Z71 and always had problems.
