Why the Ford Edge?
Front seat comfort: No contest-Edge seats are very comfortable vs. tolerable seats in the Dodge.
Exterior styling: Its a good looking car, and gets unsolicited favorable comments. That never happened with my minivan.
Powertrain performance: Comparable specifications, but the Edge transmission was smoother and the car seemed quicker and more torque at low rpm.
Cargo capacity & towing: The Caravan beat the Edge like a rented mule for cargo capacity, but on the flip side seemed whale like just looking at it. It also would hog almost 2 extra feet of garage when parked.
Quietness: This car is impressively quiet, without the echo chamber drumming effect characteristic of minivans.
Why Not the Dodge Grand Caravan?
Exterior styling: Mini-van styling is by definition uncool. Mostly, after having Minivans in the garage since 1987, I just couldn't bring myself to buy another.
Powertrain performance: This thing has some ridiculous number of gears, and you can feel the shifts as you go along. The engine has to be spun up to get the big power-it didn't seem nearly as powerful as it's rating.
Front seat comfort: Nice car, but front seats could be better. Close to a deal breaker.
Why the Ford Edge?
Exterior styling: Looks were on par with comparible CUV's in it's class. The vista roof is a nice feature!
Interior styling: Interior fit and finish is excellent and comfortable. The sterio could use an update from a visual point of view.
Ride smoothness: By far the best ride in its class out of any other vehicle i tested.
Quietness: I have never driven a quieter vehicle. i have studded snow tires and can hardly tell there even on.
Price or payments: One of the reasons i bought an Edge was becuase of the 0% financing offered by Ford. GM and Toyota couldnt even come close!
Why Not the Chevrolet Equinox?
Color choices: Couldnt have brown leather interior with silver exterior. This was a major issue for me.
Audio & nav systems: The audio controls were cluttered in the center stack with too many buttons.
Brand reputation & image: I was concerned about GM's longterm viabilty as a company.
Discounts & incentives: For a company that just came out of bankruptsy they dont seem to egar to finance vehicles like Ford did. There's no better rate then 0%!
Price or payments: Equinox had a comparible price range, but there financing was not as attractive as Ford
Why the Lincoln MKX?
Exterior styling: front end styling
Front seat comfort: heated AND cooled front seats
Materials & workmanship: more leather, less plastic
Warranty, scheduled maintenance cost: four years basic maintenance included along with longer warranty on the same drivetrain
Available features: Wanted heated AND cooled front seats, Edge did not offer them even though it is basically the same vehicle
Why Not the Ford Edge?
Available features: Sport model did not offer adaptive cruise control even though it was available in the Limited model. But the Limited model came with chromed plastic-clad wheels which reminded me of a '60s Hot Wheels toy car which was a deal breaker at that cost.
Dealership practices: Even the dealer where we had previously purchased eight new vehicles wanted to low-ball us on our trade. Granted the Lincoln dealer probably had more room to negotiate, but they started out by offering more than the Ford dealer would and went higher.
Warranty, scheduled maintenance cost: We got a vehicle with the same drivetrain and a longer warranty and four years free maintenance. Considering all of the niceties on the Lincoln, and the overall ambience of the interior, we felt it was worth the extra dollars over the Ford.
Materials & workmanship: too much plastic on the dash and for panels
Front seat comfort: seats are comfortable, just wanted to get cooled seats for the hotg summers
Why the Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
Powertrain performance: Plenty of power to pull my 29 ft trailer.
Why Not the Ford Edge?
Quietness: More road noise than was expected for a new vehicle
Fuel economy: Anticipated more MPG than an average of 23
Control design: The MyTouch requires one to look away from the road more than I like.
Driving position & visibility: Driver view on a right turn into oncoming traffic is compromised to some degree.
Why the Ford Flex?
Exterior styling: Different, "hip to be square" styling. A unique vehicle
Rear seat room & comfort: Tons of rear leg room. Can accommodate basketball players
Cargo capacity & towing: Great towing capacity for a crossover SUV that is really a large station wagon
Powertrain performance: Quick acceleration, tight cornering and plenty of power to go up the mountains
Interior styling: Well designed tower of controls and accessibility to all functions a finger tip away
Why Not the Ford Edge?
Front seat comfort: A little cramped
Rear seat room & comfort: not much leg room
Why the Chevrolet Equinox?
Interior styling: Interior lighting at night is more luxury import-like,the two toned interior is fantastic.Ergonomics are spot on, design touches all over are great,no shiny plastic.Back seat also moves to make cargo space.Class act for interiors for crossovers
Safety & braking: Firm brake pedal feel and excellent IIHS crash ratings.
Quietness: Little to no wind noise, road noise is minimal.
Exterior styling: Looks proportioned, with interesting curves and creases in body panels.
Fuel economy: Excellent fuel economy with 4 cyl.; I get the EPA numbers.
Why Not the Ford Edge?
Fuel economy: V6 economy only; nothing special.
Interior styling: Cheapcheapcheap. A sea of bland, shiny black plastic. Plus, the cargo room is skimpy due to the rear seat; generous rear leg room though. Problem is the seat is fixed, unlike the one in the Equinox. It just looks lousy compared to the Equinox
Safety & braking: Mushy brakes; safety ratings are great though.
Quietness: Nothing special considering the higher price than the Equinox.
Exterior styling: Too bland, little in terms of body creases. Looks bulkier than it really is.
Why the Mazda CX-9?
Front seat comfort: I'm 6'7" and the fronts seats fit me great
Why the Ford Edge?
Exterior styling: Sleek, modern - looks very similar to the Lexus crossover SUV's, for a fraction of the price.
Interior styling: Clean, modern, spacious, well laid out.
Quietness: This car is every bit as quiet as the Infininti and Lexus crossover SUV's - very inpressive.
Materials & workmanship: No notcieable blems, nothing is loose or vibrates, everything is quiet, the doors are solid and sound like a car door should when you shut them (not a tin can!) The Vista roof system is incredible.
Audio & nav systems: The sound system is well above average, clear at all volumes. The Microsoft Sync system is awesome for both hands free cell phone use and Ipod use, the audible nav is a great included feature, and you get Sirius XM satellite radio free for six months.
Why the Ford Edge?
Exterior styling: chrome & front apperance
Interior styling: layout & color chocesFord
Brand reputation & image: Ford has the best realiable image & they did not want any bailout money
Audio & nav systems: Works better then I thought. voice recounition is very good.
Ride smoothness: nothing to explain about smooth & also very quiet
Why the Ford Edge?
Exterior styling: NICE SMOOTH LOOK. I LIKE THE REAR STYLING OF THE VEHICLE
Interior styling: SEATS ARE COMFORTABLE AND GAUGES ARE EASILY VISIBLE.
Handling: VERY STABLE FEELING WHEN DRIVING. LITTLE TO NO BODY ROLL WHEN CORNERING WHILE MAINTAINING A SMOOTH RIDE
Quietness: VERY LITTLE ROAD NOISE OR WIND NOISE
Rear seat room & comfort: EXCELLENT ROOM IN THE REAR FOR LEGS AND STRETCHING OUT.
Why Not the Ford Edge?
Powertrain performance: It seems a little underpowered. Maybe it is just the transmission gearing ratios.
Color choices: NOT ENOUGH CHOICES
Why the Ford Edge?
Fuel economy: For it's size it does quite well. A lot better than the vehicle I had before.
Available features: Has a lot of nice touches such as a deep console, large moon roof!!!, climate control, heated seats, safety equipment, power seats with easy out, power liftgate, power rear seat fold down option, intermittent rear wiper, auto lights, puddle lights, nav &
Discounts & incentives: Part of the Ford X-plan. No fees. 0% interest.
Exterior styling: Looks a bit tough with the colour and wheels chosen. Unique and does not give the impression it is as large as it is.
Cargo capacity & towing: Rear seats and front passanger seat folds down to carry longer loads.
Why the Ford Edge?
Price or payments: The price was competitive
