Reviewed: 2012 Ford Escape

4dr SUV 171-horsepower 2.5L I4 6-speed automatic FWD

Why the 2012 Ford Escape?

Fuel economy

Looking for something with good fuel mileage and a bit of hauling ability to replace full size truck. Easily doubled fuel mileage.

Warranty, maintenance cost

dealer offered lifetime powertrain warranty for any new Ford sold...as I tend to keep them a long time, this was an attractive feature.

Discounts & incentives

Model year end clearance, major change coming in model, zero interest, great deal on trade, all added up to over 10K off sticker...what is not to like!

Audio & nav systems

MS Sync, satellite radio nice overall system

Feature availability

Leather seating, moon roof, nicely equipped

Why Not the 2012 Ford Escape?

Cargo capacity

It's small...no 2 ways about it, especially compared to the full size truck it replaced. Towing...no way...4 banger and FWD..

Front seat room

It's a tad bit tight in the drivers seat. I have to postion the seat just right to avoid hitting my right knee on the center console, and I frequently hit the light switch when getting out. I'm only 5'9", so not that large of a person.
