A Pretty Decent Cute-Ute, All Things Considered A member from New Mexico, United States Best Reason to Buy the Ford Escape: Exterior styling Styling is a matter of personal preference, of course, but even after nearly a year of seeing the 2013 Escape on the road, I still greatly prefer the look of the 2008-2012 body style. Yes it's boxy, yes it's less refined, yes it looks like it's trying to imitate an Expedition. Don't care. There's something much more honest about this design than the tortured, Euro-inspired cuteness and "modern!" appearance of the 2013 model. Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Powertrain performance The little 2.5L four-cylinder offers decent power for its size, but idles very coarsely with the A/C on and in gear. Ford has issued a service notice for this problem, but it basically comes down to, "we know there are complaints, but resolving the issue isn't a priority for us." Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Escape: Audio & nav systems, Discounts & incentives, Cargo capacity & towing, Driving position & visibility Other Reasons Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Materials & workmanship, Fuel economy, Materials & workmanship, Ride smoothness This member owns or leases the reviewed vehicle. read full review |

A member from Pennsylvania, United States Best Reason to Buy the Ford Escape: Fuel economy Looking for something with good fuel mileage and a bit of hauling ability to replace full size truck. Easily doubled fuel mileage. Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Cargo capacity & towing It's small...no 2 ways about it, especially compared to the full size truck it replaced. Towing...no way...4 banger and FWD.. Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Escape: Warranty, scheduled maintenance cost, Discounts & incentives, Audio & nav systems, Feature availability Other Reasons Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Front seat room This member owns or leases the reviewed vehicle. read full review |

A member from Indiana, United States Best Reason to Buy the Ford Escape: Exterior styling Familiar styling. This is one of the last two yeras for the old style, and it is much better than the current style. Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Quietness There is more road noise that the newer model Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Escape: Fuel economy, Driving position & visibility, Past personal experience This member owns or leases the reviewed vehicle. read full review |

A member from New York, United States Best Reason to Buy the Ford Escape: Powertrain performance Wife needed a car that could conquer snowy/icy roads/driveways for work. The AWD w/ 2.3L 4 cyl & 5-spd manual is rock solid, and gets great MPGs. Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Materials & workmanship The seat cover materials are the worst in a car I've ever owned. Plain water stains them terribly. The dealer admitted it was a problem with the XLS model's cheap materials, but couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it. Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Escape: Price or payments, Safety & braking, Cargo capacity & towing, Rear seat room & comfort This member owns or leases the reviewed vehicle. read full review |

A member from Ohio, United States Best Reason to Buy the Ford Escape: Fuel economy I was looking for better mileage. I got 33+ no problem. The car taught me how to drive more efficiently. I am getting 34-35+ in the summer months now. My son has learned to drive the same way by starting with the Hybrid. A member from Illinois, United States Best Reason to Buy the Ford Escape: Driving position & visibility Easy to see out of and park. The Escape has a great driving position. Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Escape: Powertrain performance The powertrain was flawless except for the clutch take-up in moist weather. The clutch chatter was unbearable and was ultimately why I traded it in. If I had the automatic, I probably would have kept the Escape.
