Best Reason to Buy the Ford Explorer: Exterior styling
The Sport is close to being a different suv from the non-sport explorers, the unique wheels and tires, the blacked out features set it apart.<br />

We came from a very understated Audi Q5 and the wife liked this better.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Exterior styling
Not a fan of the sirius antenna - would suggest a shark fin replacement (which is easily done)

Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Explorer: Handling, Quietness, Fuel economy, Powertrain performance

Other Reasons Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Audio & nav systems, Brand reputation & image

Lots of them on the road.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Reliability & durability
Absolutely TERRIBLE transmission problems that Ford refuses to address. I won;t buy another Ford despite the fact I have 3 in my driveway now.

Best Reason to Buy the Ford Explorer: Safety & braking
Full Frame, very safe.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Dealer practices
High profit motive, new car sales, and Commission. Take the profit out of the service department and put the service back in. Every service writer wants to talk you into something you don’t need.

Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Explorer: Powertrain performance, Cargo capacity, Reliability & durability, Feature availability

Great vehicle to drive, Horrible SUV to own

Compared to 2013 Ford Explorer (Tuxedo black)

Best Reason to Buy the Ford Explorer: Price or payments
With the incentives, buying this SUV felt like I was getting a huge bargain. By my 5th year of ownership, I felt like I got ripped off based on the cost to maintain this vehicle.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Reliability & durability
The SUV became a money pit in my 6th year of ownership. I've driven Fords all my life, and this was by far the worst I've ever owned. Internet research confirmed lots of owners were having similar problems: total brake jobs every 25k miles, front (50k) and real wheel bearings (67k), rear door trim bezel cracked 3x (fixed 1st time under warranty, I paid 2nd time, left as-is 3rd time), and the real killer - a complete tranny overhaul at only 67k miles. Ford knew there were problems w/ the tranny, but decided to stick it to the owners anyways. It was a great SUV to drive, but it cost me over $9k in maint/repairs in the last 3 years I owned this SUV.

Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Explorer: Past personal experience, Rear seat room & comfort, Powertrain performance, Ride smoothness

Other Reasons Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Warranty, maintenance cost

Best Reason to Buy the Ford Explorer: Driving position & visibility
Very comfortable in the front. Heated/cooled leather seats are awesome. A-pillars (especially lower area) are so big that sometimes smaller cars are hidden from view when trying to make a turn. The view to the rear is blocked by 3rd row headrests.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Dealer practices
Dealer keeps sending me letters telling me I'm violating my warranty by not having services done that are NOT called for in the owner's manual. And they wonder why I won't do business with their service department.

Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Explorer: Powertrain performance, Fuel economy, Handling, Controls and instruments

Other Reasons Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Cargo capacity, Reliability & durability, Feature availability, Tires

Best Reason to Buy the Ford Explorer: Materials & workmanship
The interior and exterior finishes are of a luxury styling. More akin to a BMW or Mercedes. Great leather perferated seats. Everything about the workmanship says sturdy and long lasting.

Other Reasons to Buy the Ford Explorer: Cargo capacity, Feature availability, Fuel economy

Bearings Bearings Bearings, Rear end has been serviced seven times all due to the CHEAP bearings that FORD uses and then refuses to stand behind their parts.

Other Reasons Not to Buy the Ford Explorer: Powertrain performance, Dealer practices, Materials & workmanship, Fuel economy
