The audio system quit responding to "instructions" during the pre-delivery prep. The car thought it was at the Ford plant in Dearborn. The dealer disconnected the battery for 15 minutes or so and connected the car to their wi-fi. That restored the audio and GPS function (for about a week). The audio would quit responding altogether or it would not change stations or volume. The manual says that the computer shuts some systems down when the battery gets thin and that seemed to bear out (short trips and commute). I put it on a charger overnight and that restored for a while. Then after the transmission failed and needed to be overhauled, the audio quit again. They tested and found a failed Audio Control Module. I think it's still at the dealership unsaleable due to the rear axle bolt recall and failed module.

Oil leak developed after 16,000 miles. The Ford is garaged every day and in the Spring when I had it out of the garage to give it a good cleaning, I noticed oil spots on the garage floor that had been building up. I took it to Brewster Ford, the dealership from which I purchased it, and so far, I've had to bring it back 4 times for the same issue - oil leak. The first time, they said they had to keep it overnight because they needed more time to find the source and I was not able to leave it without a loaner. I brought it back a week later at 7:30am and by 3:30pm that afternoon, they said they had repaired the leak by replacing the rear engine seal. I picked up the vehicle and found it leaking within a few days. I brought the Ford back a 3rd time. This time they kept it over night and said they had replaced the oil pan gasket sealant as well as the turbo seal. The vehicle started leaking again within a few days. Last week, I brought it back for the 4th time and now they're telling me that they've had to open a case with Ford to request technical assistance from the engineering group. They said they located the leak and it's not horrible, but that it shouldn't be happening [no kidding]. I don't know what the problem is and neither does the dealership apparently. Still waiting to hear what's going to happen with my new vehicle. I'll never buy another Ford again based on this experience. I think it's a combination of having to deal with a dealership that should have located the source early - why has it taken them this long to finally open a case with Ford? In speaking with the Regional Customer Service Manager, there could be a crack in the block causing the leak and they'll have to replace the engine, but I don't want the vehicle anymore because there may be more issues down the road. I paid $50k for this vehicle, brand new in July, 2016 and shouldn't be having an issue like this so early on. Very disappointed.

After multiple trips to the dealer in an attempt to repair a slow oil leak, Ford agreed to buy the vehicle back from me. I drove the lemon back to the dealer I bought it from only 2 years earlier and they gave me a check and cancelled the balance of my car loan. It was very frustrating lasting months going back and forth to the dealer, but Ford did the right thing and took the vehicle back.

The water leak returned, and the seam sealer in the rear was still closed up from my previous repair. This time, I was actually able to catch the leak while it was happening, which made identifying the cause much easier. The behavior of this leak was a little different than last time, and the fix was easier. The latest leak was due to a clogged valve on the driver front sunroof drain. Some sand/dirt had gotten up above the wheel liner, and plugged the check valve, preventing the trey around the sunroof from draining completely. Unlike the previous leak, this one manifested by flowing down the drivers side A-pillar and onto the floor. The fix was very simple. Just cut the wheel hard to the right (for a drivers side repair), remove the fender liner push pins, pull the liner back about 6", reach up and run your finger across the check valve to clear it of debris. Ours was undoubtedly due to years of driving on the 4x4 beach at the Outer Banks N.C, and will now be something I check as part of my routine maintenance when we get back from that trip.

I'm on my 3rd transmission now. Dealer had fixed the trans 10 years ago, and it, all of a sudden, started slipping. The transmission has NO dipstick to check the fluid level by the writer fluid level was low and had burned up trans, $5k. So I had the transmission repaired, and within 1k miles the engine timing twnsioner broke and killed the engine. I've owned this car since new. I've personally changed the oil and filter every 3k miles. Now I'm stuck with an Explorer with new tires, trans, brakes, the weird part is that there was no notice that car's engine just died. Oil level full and still clean.
