2012 Ford Focus Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Somewhat disappointed return to Ford by tennisgti

Introduction

Had a horrible Taurus in late 80's, swore would never buy a ford again. Had to purchase a car quickly and the focus impressed during test drive. Ownership has been a letdown. Already dreaming of new car ownership after 6 months/8,000 miles. Most disappointing car owned in last 7 or so vehicles.

Why the 2012 Ford Focus?

Why Not the 2012 Ford Focus?

Handling

Turning radius of a semi; terrible in tighter city situations

Front seat support & comfort

Driver seat cushion very uncomfortable after 30 minutes; feels like no cushion in seat

Audio & nav systems

My touch/sync more frustrating than functional. Navigation decent for directions but horrible as a commuter tool for traffic. $150 garmin far superior.

Reliability & durability

Had a clunking noise in first 1000 miles that required front struts to be replaced. Clunking noise appears to be slowly reappearing. Starting to occasionally hear a low groaning noise when transmission shifts between 20 & 30 mph.

Conclusion

Rent this car for a week to be sure it is something you can live with.

I love this car. I bought it used in 2015 with 10,000 miles on it. It now (as of Nov. 2017) has 20,000. I have had no problems with it other than the following:

1. Driver's window motor failed. Had to have it replaced for $320.

2. Automatic transmission became balky and bucked and stuttered at low speeds. Ford replaced it free, under warranty. It's great now.

3. Side door latch recall. Repairs done at no charge.

That's all. Everything is perfect now. Great service organization.
