Reviewed: 2008 Ford Fusion

4dr Sedan 160-horsepower 2.3L I4 5-speed automatic FWD

Why the 2008 Ford Fusion?

Exterior styling

Bold, stands out from pack of mid-size sedans.

Handling

SAP suspension is crisp and tight without being too harsh. Sticks to corners like glue.

Audio & nav systems

Sync system is handy. Integrating phone into stereo works well and using a portable HD for music is great.

Feature availability

The unit I bought had most of the features I wanted in my next car - leather interior, moonroof, automatic climate control.

Reliability & durability

I am pleased with the reliability reported by Fusion owners over the model lifetime so far.

Why Not the 2008 Ford Fusion?

Powertrain performance

The I4 engine is a bit unrefined under load, but fine under cruising conditions.

Fuel economy

The city fuel economy is lower than advertised (11.4l/100km with average speed of 32kmh).

Quietness

The sound of the engine under load is the only drawback, road noise is not an issue.

Front seat room

The roofline should be a few inches higher, and the lower section of the centre stack should be narrower to provide more room for the right knee.
