Ford Mustang Reliability and Durability: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2010 2dr Coupe 300-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed manual RWD
Much improved interior materials that should last as well as decent to good reliability from last iteration of the Mustang.
2007 2dr Coupe supercharged 662hp 5.8L V8
6-speed manual RWD
Forged-internal engine can withstand any mod you throw at it. Reliability has improved significantly over previous-generation Mustangs.
2007 2dr Coupe 300-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic RWD
As a long time Mustang enthusiast, to be able to drive my dream car everyday is awesome. It is more practical than you might think. I have fun everytime I drive it. I must say though, the maintenance and repairs are a bit of anuisance. Keeping up on maintenance items is important. Buy OEM and factory replacements. Replacing tie rod ends and brake pads and batteries when they are needed is key. I have had various issues with these items over the eight years of ownership. One persistent problem is the shake in the steering wheel under hard braking. Resurfacing the rotors helped a bit. But, it never went away completely. The shop told me that the rotos in the rear were still warped.
2007 2dr Convertible 300-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed manual RWD
This is my third Mustang. My first two held up very well and I expect no less from this one. I did research reliability before my purchase and found nothing to deter me from my purchase.
2006 2dr Convertible 300-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic RWD
One hiccup when first purchased, since then not a lick of trouble. The chassis is solid.
2006 2dr Convertible 526-horsepower 5.2L V8
6-speed manual RWD
easy and cheap maintenance
2006 2dr Convertible 526-horsepower 5.2L V8

Other than one small electrical issue the car has been flawless.
2005 2dr Coupe 526-horsepower 5.2L V8
6-speed manual RWD
A relatively simple car with good performance, yet is cheap to own.
2005 2dr Coupe 300-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic RWD
Front engine, rear wheel drive. Proven and true.
2003 2dr Convertible turbocharged 429hp 4.7L V8
7-speed shiftable automatic RWD
Consumer Reports rated the Mustang V6 as average or above average for reliability.

2007 2dr Coupe 526-horsepower 5.2L V8
6-speed manual RWD
I have little faith in Ford reliability over the long haul (compared to that of my Toyotas).
2006 2dr Coupe 435-horsepower 5.0L V8
6-speed shiftable automatic RWD
At 20,000 miles the AC unit had gone out twice, the fuel system had to be replaced (not just one part, I mean ALL of the fuel system), and the final straw was when the car had an electrical problem no one knew how to fix.
2005 2dr Coupe 300-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic RWD
Problems with the CD player, fuel tank, fuel pump, rattling interior/suspension and overall very cheap feeling interior.
2003 2dr Coupe turbocharged 577hp 5.5L V8
7-speed shiftable automatic RWD
usually by 60k miles they squeak or rattle. a usual place for this is the windows, they squeak a lot. also some people with modifications have had belts snap.

2009 4dr SUV 268-horsepower 3.5L V6

Toyota quality makes for a vehicle I plan to run over 180,000 miles. Peace of mind knowing vehicle will run well and trouble free at 150,000 miles just like it does now at 5,000 miles.
