Reviewed: 2007 Ford Ranger

2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 148-horsepower 3.0L V6 5-speed automatic RWD

Why the 2007 Ford Ranger?

Reliability & durability

The 3.0L engine is not a powerhouse, but is proven design and is durable.

Driving position & visibility

The Ranger has good headroom because the windshield is not severely raked back which gives it a higher roofline. I also like the support and adjustability of the manual bucket seats in my Ranger.

Exterior styling

I like the simple, clean lines without the clutter of excess chrome and exaggerated body lines.

Cargo capacity

The 6ft. bed is nice for a compact pickup. The std. cab is available with a 7ft. bed, but then you give up some space behind the front seats. I like that space to store things like tie-downs, cargo bars, etc...

Price or payments

I was lucky to find my Ranger at a local dealer. It was a 1 owner vehicle with low miles and I got it at a very reasonable price.

Why Not the 2007 Ford Ranger?

Powertrain performance

I wish Ford had offered the DOHC 3.0L Duratec engine (200HP) in the Ranger instead of the 4.0 SOHC engine. The 3.0L Vulcan engine really needs about 50 more HP.

Ride smoothness

The Ranger has a relatively short wheelbase and is sprung stiffly, so it rides roughly over bumpy roads. Some car reviews criticize the Ranger because the ride is too stiff.

Warranty, maintenance cost

3 yr., 36K miles. Many competitors have 5 yr., 60K mile warranties.

Rear seat room & comfort

The rear jump seats are suitable only for children.
