Reviewed: 2002 Ford Taurus

4dr Wagon 200-horsepower 3.0L V6 4-speed automatic FWD

Why the 2002 Ford Taurus?

Powertrain performance

DOHC 24V V6 is reliable, low maintenance, and with adequate power for my SE wagon.

Price or payments

Purchased 2002 wagon used in 2005 with less than 30k miles for only $10,000.

Front seat support & comfort

Very comfortable with adjustable lumbar for driver. Can sit up high for good visibility. Ride in great comfort on long trips in these seats.

Reliability & durability

Drivetrain is rock solid; this car is dependable and starts up and goes day in and day out. Very reliable transportation. Note: Ford maintenance schedule followed precisely.

Driving position & visibility

Comfortable seat with many adjustments allows high view of the road over the hood. Visibility is good all around.

Why Not the 2002 Ford Taurus?

Safety & braking

Mediocre braking system requires more effort than similar vehicles to stop. Rotors are prone to rusting out causing heavy pedal pulsation, especially the cheap rear rotors on the wagon.

Rear seat room & comfort

No rear head rests. Plain design is just not as comfortable as the fronts.

Depreciation

Depreciates quickly, does not compare to Honda, Toyota.

Fuel economy

22 or 23 MPG at best on the highway is mediocre but not terrible given the size and 24V V6.
