Reviewed: 2008 GMC Acadia

4dr SUV 275-horsepower 3.6L V6 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD

Why the 2008 GMC Acadia?

Rear seat room & comfort

For a family of 6 the Acadia is perfect. We chose captains chairs over bench seating and it is GREAT to not have to move seats around to get kids in the 3rd row. There is plenty of room for the kids and stuff in the back. Seats fold down nicely.

Exterior styling

A bold look, LED tail lights, more SUV looking than the Buick or Saturn Cousins

Fuel economy

For a vehicle the size, it get decent fuel economy. Driving the speedlimit sure does help, pushing that much air at 80 really hurts fuel economy.

Audio & nav systems

Cargo capacity

There is room behind the 3rd row for storage and hauling. I added an aftermarket hitch for a bike rack, but 2000 LBS is nothing plenty for a "non tow package" Acadia

Why Not the 2008 GMC Acadia?

Powertrain performance

Transmission still needs help. It has been optimized for fuel economy and runs at 70 at about 1700 RPM, the slightest incline and it drops down a gear, annoying to say the least.

Price or payments

For a starting price of 28K and upwards of 45K there is a wide gap. I would be nice to have some mid level features ie DIC included in SLE models.

Fuel economy

At near $4.00 per gallon, man it hurts to fill up right abour $85.00 per tank....ouch that hurts!
