Why the GMC Acadia?
Powertrain performance: AWD was smooth and powerful
Ride smoothness: Very large wheels, good ground clearance and forgiving suspension
Rear seat room & comfort: Better 2nd & 3rd row comfort than the Honda Minivan (this is to be a daily driver for a family with 4 kids under 10)
Quietness: Surprisingly good noise dampening
Cargo capacity & towing: 5,400 pounds, much cheaper factory installed towing option (including oil & transmission cooler) than the Honda
Why Not the Honda Odyssey?
Interior styling: Dealer vehicle had a functionality issue with 2nd row seating - broke in the showroom
Dealership practices: Honda feels they can gouge you on price - little discounting
Why the GMC Acadia?
Exterior styling: Speaks for itself.
Rear seat room & comfort: Best 3rd row leg room in its class. Smart slide seats provide easy access to 3rd row
Cargo capacity & towing: Best cargo capacity behind 3rd row in its class.
Ride smoothness: Ride smoothness is more like a minivan or sedan than SUV
Handling: Handles very well considering its large size.
Why Not the Mazda CX-9?
Rear seat room & comfort: 3rd row leg room is tight
Cargo capacity & towing: Cargo capacity behind 3rd row not impressive
Ride smoothness: Ride is a little more jittery than Acadia.
Available features: Lack of 2nd row bucket seats. Inability to get memory seats without buying 20" wheels.
Front seat room: Footwell on driver's side seemed a bit tight.
Why the GMC Acadia?
Exterior styling: Contemporary without being overdone. Looks well made.
Interior styling: Looks like a high end car. Chrome detail.
Ride smoothness: Very smooth for a SUV, don't feel bumps etc.
Handling: Rides like a car.
Front seat comfort: Plenty of legroom, seat has many adjustment.
Why Not the Acura TL?
Price or payments: Little high.
Rear seat room & comfort: Small for adults
Color choices: very few nice colors, drab in appearance.
Exterior styling: Liked the older style better. Doesn't look like anything special.
Fuel economy: COuld be better for a car of that class
Why the GMC Acadia?
Exterior styling: It is the best looking CUV available. It has a rugged masculine look to it.
Rear seat room & comfort: I like the available 3 row seating and options for 7 or 8 passengers or any combo of that and cargo.
Cargo capacity & towing: Even with all 3 rows up, still has some room for some cargo. None of the competitors have this much room with all seats up. When all seats aren't needed up, very flexible with cargo capability.
Interior styling: Looks beautiful. Much better than stylce of other CUV competitors.
Available features: Plenty of options for those gadget geeks. Easy to configure how you like. Although like all competitors, options are costly.
Why the GMC Acadia?
Quietness: Easier to carry on conversations
Why the Mazda CX-9?
Handling: Very tight on the road. Handles like a much smaller car; I sometimes forget I'm driving an SUV
Why Not the GMC Acadia?
Handling: Engine seemed noisy; it strained as I stepped on the gas pedal
Why the Honda Accord?
Handling: Feeling of confidence and stability on the highway. This car tracks true...no need to be constantly correcting.
Powertrain performance: This car will move when asked to. The engine seems bigger than it really is - and that growl from the tailpipe - glorious.
Control design: If I understand this question correctly - steering control. Tight and precise feeling at high speed and the ease of turning the wheel at slow speeeds such as in a parking lot.
Driving position & visibility: No feeling of a blind spot, I can reliably see all around without turning my head too much. I was able to easily find a relaxed, comfortable driving position, critical for long distance driving.
Reliability & durability: Historical experience. The parts that matter most to drivability will last - in my experience an Accords drivetrain will remain functional while the body rusts away.
Why Not the GMC Acadia?
Fuel economy: Even with conservative driving over long distance, was not able to get close to EPA MPG. In order to get those numbers I have to depart too far from my normal driving habits - wont happen easily, no fun. Especially when the Acadia is so willing to sprint.
Price or payments: The trim level I would be interested in is a bit above what I would be willing to spend. I also thought the Acadia was a bit too much vehicle for commuting and daily running around.
Why the GMC Acadia?
Exterior styling: Like the one color vs the black lower cladding in other trims. The "chrome" is a bit blingy but growing on us.
Rear seat room & comfort: we travel with adults not children and find the 2nd row very comfortable.
Quietness: More quiet than others tested: 11 Durango, 11 Explorer, 11 Flex
Front seat room: Good positioning for 6'+ in drivers'seat
Cargo capacity & towing: Better than those tested mentioned above
Why Not the GMC Acadia?
Available features: Surprised at the lack of 2nd row heated seats, lack of heated steering wheel
Why the GMC Acadia?
Exterior styling: One of the nicer SUV's in this class
Ride smoothness: Has a nice soft ride
Quietness: Very little road noise
Why Not the GMC Acadia?
Interior styling: Seats not as comfortable comopared to others,
passanger seating not as nice as some. Visabilty not as good as some other Suv's
Reliability & durability: Seemed to have lots of issues with their engine, amoung other litte things at low mileage.
Materials & workmanship: Interior was not the nicest in the class. Again lack of reliablity reports
Why the GMC Acadia?
Cargo capacity & towing: There is more room in this truck than a Tahoe so we felt it would suit our needs well. It can also pull a small trailer if needed.
Audio & nav systems: We have three young children and the DVD entertainment system does a GREAT job of keeping them quiet on long drives. :)
Brand reputation & image: GMC has a great reputation. We purchased the Acadia over the Traverse because it has more features and better styling.
Exterior styling: The Acadia Denali gets rid of the cheap-looking black plastic and has body colored bumpers. It also has HID headlamps and a lot of chrome accents.
Interior styling: I love the black (ebony) leather and the amount of room for passengers. It's very roomy inside.
Why the GMC Acadia?
Interior styling: one of only a few vehicles that seat 8. Very comfortable, lots of adult leg room and well thought out. rear seats both fold flat for cargo.
Handling: handles well both in town and on the highway. Solid feeling vehicle, but has good pickup and a tight turning radius.
Available features: good feature range at the base level. upper trim levels, while lots of features, have a price tag attached. From an economic perspective, bang for your buck is either base or full out trim package. mid-range not worth the extra cash.
Cargo capacity & towing: cargo capacity like a full size van. fold flat rear seats very handy. good amount of room even with all seats in use. 60/40 matching split on both rear seats helpful.
Exterior styling: sharp looking truck - good paint colour selection.
Why Not the GMC Acadia?
Brand reputation & image: past year models had transmission, A/C and gas tank issues. Seem to have been taken care of for 2010.
Past personal experience: not Acadia experience, but past GM experience.
Dealership practices: Had terrible dealership experiences with several GM dealers. Most would not seriously discuss bottom line price/payments. Finally found a dealership that not only explained options, but gave detailed, printed information!
Insurance & depreciation: insurance isn't bad, but used go for significantly less than new...
Price or payments: pricey vehicle, but certainly within the range of its competition.
Why the GMC Acadia?
Interior styling: Excellent design inside, everything seems to be right where it needs to be
