30k service. Have been annoyed by light surging or stumbling sensation while cruising on highways. Have taken to dealership twice. First time they said it was the torque converter, and since none of the maintenance lights were lit, that I did not have a problem. I didn't like that answer. Brought the car back in a couple weeks later for the 30k service...and amazingly that surge/stumble knock went away. ...For a few weeks. Worried I have a problem, as I've never felt anything like this from an engine before. = 2/2019 update - appears this is the cylinder shutoff at cruising speeds, and normal for the engine. This is the second time this has happened in 2 years. Tiny holes on the top of the fuel tank interfered with the exhaust systems ability to reliably detect a vacuum, so the check engine light came on. 116000 mi

Started throwing a code indicating the timing was out of spec. "DTC P0341: CMP Sensor A and CKP Sensor Incorrect Phase Detected" The blanket fix is to replace the VTC oil control solenoid, VTC actuator, cam chain and auto tensioner. I've always changed the oil on time with synthetic, including the filter everytime. I believe this defect is indicative of a larger quality issue in these engines. There is a TSB related to this even though it wasn't possible to prove it was the cause. A timing chain should not need to be replaced at the same frequency of a timing BELT.
73000 mi VTC Actuator Noise during cold start up.

22000 mi At 15% oil life,at cold start,I'd hear a flapping noise, like the noise of a card flapping against the blades of a house fan. Diagnosed as a sagging timing chain that became taunt, once oil pressure increased. At 100% oil life, sound vanished.

96774 mi

US $500
Took car in due to flashing check engine light. Had researched that the 08-12 Accord V6 eco motor had a class action lawsuit about bad piston ring seal design that would allow the spark plugs to foul. Was going to be a simple extended warranty repair (piston ring and spark plug replacement) by Honda, but the walls of the cylinders had already been scored which led to the short block being replaced.

83560 mi Low oil, vtc noise at start up. Some accords seem to burn oil. If you let it get low, which mine might have, the VTC piece (to alert the owner to prevent damage) will make a noise at startup. Oil level now fine, noise continues, dealer says to ignore it.
90580 mi

C $66
Car is on an oil consumption test due to burning oil. So far seems to be ok. Dipstick oil line was quite high (above top marker), but let's assume the "normal" volume. A shame that maint minder isnt more conservative.
167400 mi

C $50
P0420 code - bank1 of engine, emissions below threshold. Common problem with cars at higher KM/miles I believe. Could be the downstream sensor, or the catalytic converter, or some combination. Seems fuel and oil level related too. With the piston ring problem that the 8th gen Accord has (many documented cases), they burn oil. I believe this makes them more susceptible to fouling/impacting catalytic converter. I am monitoring as light goes on for afew days, then off for several weeks in some cases - will replace the oil and rear sensor soon. Also added some 50/50 coolant to radiator. Did not do a flush.
184760 mi

C $800
P0420 code which can be a bunch of things - catalytic converter (only 1 in 2010 Accord 4cyl), oxygen/emissions sensors before the catalytic converter and after. Intermittent problem for around 6 months until I decided to replace the o2 sensors first. About 250-300 in parts. Also did the transmission fluid drain and fill at this time and new spark plugs a month earlier. Code went out and stayed out after the o2 sensor replace, so that was obviously the issue.

Plugs replaced, piston rings damaged as a result of issue and replaced. Upon return from piston ring/misfire repairs there was a strong shudder when AC compressor was on. Took it to dealer to ensure they were aware problem was new since pickup. They claimed it only needed a tightened motor mount and sent me off. Earlier cause of rattle post misfire repair returned as a mis-installed tensioner pulley and when the dealer was driving it off to the service lot the pulley completely failed and it threw all belts off. 3rd trip originating from misfire.

Replaced the VTC actuator, gear that goes on the camshaft, timing chain and crankshaft pulley. This was due to the VTC actuator beginning to make a noise when the car started and if it wasn't corrected, it could break the timing chain which would destroy the engine. This is a documented issue with this year of Accord. I did all the work myself.

CEL P0420. Per Honda SM 100% CAT, wanted $1,500. Per My debug & indp shop likely 1 of the 02 (A/F) sensors and NOT the cat. Shop thought front 02 sensor, I thought rear 02. I buy OEM parts. Did front sensor first. Not it. 2 weeks later, rear 02 sensor replaced. THIS WAS IT! Shop likes to replace cat bc this sensor rusts to it, but only need new sensor. P0420 not always the CAT. Check fuel inj. temp sender, coolant temp, front A/F or 02 sensor and rear 02 (mose likely).
196000 mi This appears to be somewhat common: P0700, P1739. No CEL/MIL. I check for codes at fuel up (ScanGage2). I see this code, every 1-2 years. I think it a computer bug. ECU thinks it should see a response in x-seconds, and not happen in time...

201000 mi Unknown source rattle, mid-front exhaust area, intermittent: Most likely the CAT. Unable to conclusively isolate noise. Could be internal to exhaust manifold down pipe (between engine and CAT). Sounds like two pipe hitting each other.
212000 mi P0420 is back (bad CAT). Like the last time MIL/CEL showed up just after SMOG test. I passed with flying colors! Last time the rear 02 sensor became slow, but did not throw a MIL. I have not checked for this yet. I have reset the CEL 3x.
