Honda Civic Gas Mileage (MPG)

Unlike other fuel economy surveys, TrueDelta's Real-World Gas Mileage Survey includes questions about how and where a car was driven. So you can get an idea of the Honda Civic's real-world MPG based on how and where you drive a car.

Honda Civic Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr Sedan 201-horsepower 2.4L I4
6-speed manual FWD
This one is odd. I travel down to Florida a lot, on a 300-400 mile trip I am between 35-40. Mixed driving I have never gone below 32.4. City driving I once saw it go down to 29.1. I am sure if I drive it like I stole it these figures would drop, but then few drive like this. I will say if you if you light up the four lights on the VTEC you will knock a couple of miles a gallon off your mileage instantly and it will take a while to get back.
2012 4dr Sedan 140-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed automatic FWD
Delivers good fuel economy, even better than the old model despite having a larger displacement engine. About 27-28 mpg in mostly stop and go driving, and 33-35 mpg in highway.
2011 4dr Sedan 140-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed automatic FWD
36 MPG on highway
2010 4dr Sedan 140-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed automatic FWD
Very good. Get a true 36 mpg on interstate doing a sustained 75 mph.

I consistently get between 7 and 7.5L per 100 km which is about 32.5 MPG(US). I also own a Toyota Tundra, so the savings on fuel almost pay for the civic itself.
2009 4dr Sedan 110-horsepower 1.3L I4 Hybrid
CVT FWD
Getting around 40 MPG combined 60/40 Hwy/City; more if I go easy on the gas pedal.

It ranks just below the Prius for MPG. My son who bought a 2008 Civic Hybrid says he is getting better than rated MPG. I am trading in a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid because the city MPG is not anywhere near what I was led to believe.
2009 4dr Sedan 197-horsepower 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
17mpg if you use all OE specification fluids and drive short trips around town. I get 32mpg with Amsoil full synthetic with cruise control at 65mph. 24mpg for mixed (normal). It *requires* premium.

The Si still gets rather good fuel economy, even with a much beefier motor than the other models.
2009 4dr Sedan 140-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Great economy.

2007 2dr Coupe 197-horsepower 2.0L I4

Takes premium fuel. To really get going, you need to rev the engine high... uses gas to do so.
2006 4dr Sedan 140-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed automatic FWD
Advertised as 50 MPG/Gal (Imp) best we ever got was 42 MPG, I asked when we got the car new what the "real" gas milage was and salesman swore it would get 50 MPG?!?!
2006 4dr Sedan 110-horsepower 1.3L I4 Hybrid
CVT FWD
Poorer than the Prius.
2006 4dr Sedan 140-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed automatic FWD
EPA was 50 MPG (IMP Gal) i have never done better than 41.3 MPG.
2004 4dr Sedan 93-horsepower 1.3L I4 Hybrid
CVT FWD
With the things it gave up to the Prius (cargo utility, rear space), it should surpass the Prius in mileage but actually came up short (as did the Insight).
2003 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 1.7L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
We only get about 30 mpg compared with 42 mpg in our 2008 Prius.
