Only about 15% of my driving is on the highway, and in New England winter I'm still getting about 30mpg, and I don't consider myself to be a very economical driver. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Powertrain performance The 117bhp version is extremely under-powered. It's hard to maintain highway speeds at reasonable rpm's with 3 people of average weight in the car. The acceleration feels sluggish and throttle feels unresponsive at times. A member from Texas, United States Best Reason to Buy the Honda Fit: Interior styling Excellent utility, hard to beat packaging. Extremely usable design, family / pet friendly. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Quietness The fatal flaw for the car. Even with the revisions for 2012, this is one noisy car. The lack of torque usually results in frequent and unexpected high revs with very little corresponding speed especially at freeway speeds. Within the city it really does not matter. But for frequent freeway flogs, this is absolutely not the car to be driving unless it were your only choice. Longer drives result in higher levels of fatigue. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Quietness As expected there is wind noise at freeway speeds but most cars have this problem and I have heard worse on more expensive cars. A member from North Carolina, United States Best Reason to Buy the Honda Fit: Fuel economy We drove the car back to NC from Boston when the car was 3 years old. The trip took a day and a half, and we got better than 40 mpg for large portions of the trip, doing 75 mph on the interstates. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Exterior styling The plastic trim on the doors and front has faded considerably, and the paint is chipping at the door handles where you open the car. A member from Maryland, United States Best Reason to Buy the Honda Fit: Powertrain performance Throttle map makes the most of engine torque but it will happily wind out to the limiter in S-mode. Trans shifts either frugally or briskly depending on throttle position. Has a nice, growly intake noise. Sewing machine tick-over at idle is endearing. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Ride smoothness On rougher pavement with square-edged bumps this car will probably annoy you if you're not used to cars with sporty suspenders and short wheelbases. Apparently more sidewall and going with the Base model (no rear anti-sway) helps with this issue. A member from Manitoba, Canada Best Reason to Buy the Honda Fit: Cargo capacity & towing Wanted a hatchback or wagon for camping and hauling, but also something fairly fuel efficient and reliable. This was the best choice. Rear seat configurations are amazing. That's what made me choose this car over mazda3. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Powertrain performance I wish my fit had a 6th gear. It revs in the 3000rpm range on the highway, and I wish it didn't. A taller final drive with a 6mt would be nice. Mostly it's a city runabout and perfect for that. Lots of room inside the hatch, rear seats fold flat for a huge space and fold up for a great space in the rear, terrific head room. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Quietness Really noisy all the time and very much so on rough surfaces or roads with certain textures. I have to admit I did think about looking at the Elantra and soul. Best Reason Not to Buy the Honda Fit: Ride smoothness The ride is firm and when you go over bumps or road imperfections then you will feel it. Its not punishing, but may get annoying if the roads in your area are not well maintained.
