Reviewed: 2011 Honda Pilot

4dr SUV 250-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed automatic AWD

Why the 2011 Honda Pilot?

Cargo capacity

Cargo area folds down completely flat, can be configured many ways to fit cargo and passengers. The cargo length is 6 1/2 feet.

Rear seat room & comfort

Very comfortable rear seats and climate controls, even for tall people.

Ride smoothness

Suspension soaks up small bumps and gravel washboard well. Not so good on larger bumps.

Reliability & durability

Consumer reports show excellent reliability, and resale value is high.

Fuel economy

When new, routinely 13L per 100 or worse, but improved after 1st oil change. Now at 10,000 Km, the gas mileage is around 11.6L per 100 in mixed driving. Gas mileage is VERY sensitive to wind direction.

Why Not the 2011 Honda Pilot?

Dealer practices

The price in canada is still $10,000 more than in the U.S. We only bought because of a $ 4,000 rebate on the remaining 2011 models. Honda prohibits U.S. dealers from selling new Hondas to Canadians. If you buy a used Honda in the U.S. the warrantyis void

Tires

Honda claims the spare tire is a narrow but correct diameter tire. It is NOT ! It is an undersized tire, just like most other SUV's. This should be illegal, because driving with that spare will damage the AWD. I replaced it with a full size rim & tire
