Known defect on the Ridgeline is the Denso radiators have dissimilar metals at the inlet and outlet pipe. The welded washers at bottom of radiator became weak and a transmission line blew at the bottom of the radiator. Almost ruined the transmission with the dreaded pink milkshake. This Honda Ridgeline has been the biggest POS our family has ever owned. Repairs are expensive. If you are going to do any kind of towing or hauling, a Ridgeline is not the truck for the job. We've spent thousands maintaining and repairing this truck while are GM trucks just need routine maintenance.

Oil leak near the timing chain and water pump. When I took it in told them timing chain had been done. Then they called and said oil leak. Price was the same as installing new timing chain. Go figure.
133000 mi

US $1800
Head gasket cylinder no 3
132000 mi

US $2100
They thought head gasket, but it was a pinhole that developed between the water jacket and the valve guides. The head had to be replaced, turns out the dealer didn't send the heads out to confirm the source of the leak and the missing coolant.

96000 mi broken front passenger side motor mount
18 mi Warranty work, replaced fuel pump relay. Honda recall.
175000 mi Car has failed to start twice and was unable to restart for several days each occurrence. Have eliminated battery and ignition relay as causes. Towed to dealer after 2nd event and left for them to diagnose. Car started immediately when they started and were unable to make it fail. Car returned unrepaired. Still not sure of root cause. Mechanic suspects intermittent issue with the starter motor but didn't want to recommend replacement without confirming that it is the problem since that's an expensive job.
183000 mi Occasional starting difficulties remain. I've narrowed it down to the ignition switch since I can usually jiggle the key or hold it in the start position longer to make it work. Now that I know that I'm less inclined to have it repaired due to cost. If problem persists then I'll have a mechanic look at the ignition switch stack.
193000 mi Check engine light turns on occasionally. Thought it was due to the gas cap not sealing. Replaced gas cap and problem persisted. Finally took to mechanic and there are various codes revealed by the computer. Was not able to leave it there long enough to get everything fixed. Will need to take it back.
127700 mi Fitting to trans cooler failed, puking coolant into tranny. I replaced the radiator. Had the dealer run through many fluid changes burnishing the fluid through the trans to clear all coolant out
88643 mi

C $996
Blown head gasket, but later turned out to be a cracked block. Thermostat stuck in shut position. Head gasket blew in two cylinders. Head warped and required machining. Timing belt and water pump replaced at the same time.
89280 mi Three trips to the dealership - complete new engine installed after Honda Canada got involved and found another cylinder head crack that had been missed by the dealership.
105720 mi Used two variable length o-ring clips to hold two halves of the heat shield together. I just happened to have the o-rings in my tool kit!
121520 mi

C $265
Centre and rear exhaust heat shields replaced.
123380 mi

C $805
Engine developed a loud tick at idle. Research suggested that it was the valve train. Full adjustment done by mechanic, but noise did not go away.
123380 mi

C $5824
58,000kms after an engine rebuild by Honda, under warranty, piston-slap developed and got worse over a 2 month period. Engine had to be completely rebuilt. To get the job done properly, a specialist engine builder did the work.
123380 mi After 2nd engine rebuild, the exhaust header and cat. converter on the back bank (firewall side) of cylinders started falling to pieces. Cost of repairs was too much. Time to part company with this money pit!
24000 mi "VTEC" failure - would not rev above 4300 rpm and was in "failsafe" mode
28000 mi Would not rev past 4500 RPM - fuel pump was not providing adequate fuel pressure at high RPM's.
48000 mi

US $95
ignition key socket failed-could not start-they replaced all key sets- then steering bound up-they replaced a trim piece-- ok. took so long, they changed oil (due)as a free-bee
59000 mi Burned valves: one cylinder, 1 exhaust, 1 intake. Finally replaced head assy including coils.
36000 mi Oscillating/rattling noise coming from behind the timing belt cover which was especially noticeable when vehicle was idling and in Park. Timing belt idler noisy -- it was replaced along with the timing belt, tensioner (adjuster), and the water pump.

US $300

133300 mi

C $350
Blow by on the number 4 cylinder, malfunctioning coil packs. All spark plugs replaced plus one coil pack replaced same problem - engine missing and problem has not yet been ascertained.

65000 mi

US $30
front engine mount split..repaired under cpo warranty..found after reading ridgelineownersclub.com
136000 mi

US $175
Valve adjust. The engine started sounding "sewing machine-ish" - and - fuel economy was tanking into the 14 MPG range. Interestingly, when torn down to the head covers, every intake valve was in spec, requiring no adjustment. On the other hand, every exhaust valve was so tight the correct feeler gauge couldn't wiggle into or even feel the difference between valve stem tip and tappet. I always associated valve train noise with excessive lash, but that wasn't the case here.
90000 mi

US $50
The clips that hold the heat shield around the catalytic converter rusted, causing the shield to rattle. Dealer replaced the clamps.
104000 mi

US $161

227000 mi

US $50
Major failure. Blown head gasket. Cylinder misfire. Engine replacement required.
188300 mi

US $85

I'm not a gear head so I'm not sure about wording - but a valve had an 80% leak and the cylinder had to be removed (which has 4 valves), sent to machine shop and then reinstalled - valves adjusted and spark plugs replaced.
