Reliability and Durability of the Hyundai Elantra: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr Sedan 148-horsepower 1.8L I4

With no spare, I'm not sure what will happen when I have a flat halfway between Barstow and Blythe.

6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
This car has not had to be repaired yet, and the warranty gives me great peace of mind.
2010 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
The reputation of the Elentra provides an element of assurance
2009 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4

2007 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4

Despite having some early production problems like any newly designed car, it has never had a major issue. It has never broken down on me or left me stranded.
2006 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Very few repairs.
2005 4dr Hatch 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Over 4 years and almost 28000 miles my Elantra has been exceptionally reliable. Other relatives who own Elantras like mine also report similar reliability. None of us have experienced any major issues in over 4 years of owning Elantras.
2005 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
I have put 55,000 miles on this car in less than 3 years, and it has not given me any trouble.
2005 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Outstanding dependability.
2005 4dr Hatch 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
I keep very good records of every car I have ever owned. The Elantra (this will be the third one I have owned) has performed the best. The net investment (excluding maintenance, and operational costs for fuel fluids, tires etc.) was $6,500.00. The car had 63,000 miles on it when I sold it for $7.000.00 within 5 days of listing it to a private party.
2004 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Apparently this generation is quite reliable
2003 4dr Sedan 135-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
I bought this car new in Nov, 2003 and still have it. Other than routine maintenance including 2 timing belt replacements (preventative) at 66K and 125K. Major problems: The radiator began leaking at 98K miles and was replaced. Also had to replace a power steering belt in 2009 at about 90K. One headlamp cover seal now needs to be replaced and the seal for the driver side window is loosening and needs replacing. Overall, a very good, reliable car. Just turned 135K. Highly recommended as a used car. I would buy another Elantra.
2003 4dr Sedan 135-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
only breakdown was replace clutch at over 100000 miles
2003 4dr Sedan 135-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Almost zero problems in four years of ownership
2002 4dr Hatch 140-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Japanese reliability at American prices, how can you go wrong?
2002 4dr Hatch 140-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
simple engine layout
2002 4dr Hatch 140-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Never had any mechanical problems since I bought it at 83,000 miles. It now has 128,000 miles. The worst problem it has had was a leak of power steering fluid which was fixed for under $20.

2013 4dr Sedan 148-horsepower 1.8L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Very high rating, superb warranty, and the free rodaside assistance is great!
2010 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Repeated trips for TPMS repair, key fob frequently locks doors unexpetedly, and on several occassions activated horn alarm when not intended.
2008 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Cheap interior materials, knobs and buttons wear prematurely
