Radio exchanged for a new one - problem resolved. Vehicle still vibrates excessively at any speed while driving (steering wheel shakes left/right) and also vibrates (unrelated) heavily at idle, especially if the A/C is running and the car is in gear (e.g. at a traffic light or stop sign). Dealer claims this is "normal" (in a $50,000 car) and refuses to look into this further.

When stopped and pressed firmly on the steering wheel with both hands at 3:00 and 9:00 o'clock, the steering would move back and forth by approx. 1/4 of an inch. Sometimes I could feel it while driving. The dealer replaced the steering column under warranty.
