2013 Hyundai Sonata 4dr Sedan

turbocharged 274hp 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD

16000 mi Engine quit on highway, dealer found no problem first time, engine died a few days later in slow moving traffic. Dealer replaced ECM unit. Car since stalled out again so I guess it's not the ECM?
22600 mi Car stalled again after dealer reprogrammed the PCM. Dealership replaced the electronic throttle system. All seems well. Dealer also performed an alignment at this service as the car pulls to the left.
27000 mi Noticed a burning smell after a long highway drive in very cold weather. Dealer found an oil leak and replaced the valve cover and gasket moulding.
51000 mi Check engine light. Dealer cleared code and recommended fuel system cleaning
78000 mi engine seized on highway. Dealership bought car after repairs. Common issue it seems, I no longer own this vehicle.
97000 mi Long block replaced under warranty. The problem was found due to a timing issue which caused the car to not start.
109000 mi Recall on fuel hose

Check engine light came on and the code read was for the rear O2 sensor. I ordered the part with a PCV valve and had a family member install it.

198-horsepower 2.4L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD

50800 mi Metal shavings in the engine, engine was rebuilt.
45000 mi Dealer replaced high pressure fuel pump. There were recalls on the part so warranty covered it. Thank goodness, other wise it would have been a 1,000 repair.
35000 mi Oil drip
6000 mi Check Engine light came on. Dealer said it was a vacuum leak (probably gas cap) and reset the check engine light. I had filled by tank two days before and had driven over 200 miles before the check engine light came on? Wait for fix??
38000 mi A test was run on the engine on a recall. A recording was made and sent to Hyundai for further analysis. Then the engine oil was drained and replaced along with the oil filer. A new dip stick was also installed. Engine was found to be okay.
20000 mi The car was cranking a long time before turning over and running rough, with hesitations, loss of power, and trouble shifting (Auto Transmission). The Dealer said the symptoms matched a TSB and a software update would fix it.
20000 mi After the previous repair attempt, the problem returned in one day: extended cranking, rough running, hesitation, loss of power, trouble shifting.
96000 mi Some engines during build, had residual particulate matter left behind, which could damage crank shaft ans seals. Engine was inspected, oil changed, and additional 20,000 mile engine warranty added
85800 mi The engine blew. It needs to be replaced. Approx 5 weeks ago Hyundai sent me a notice they were extending my warranty by 20K miles because of possible piston problems. Well driving home from the store the motor blew. No warning lights.
87300 mi Motor Blew. Needed replacement. Car had 87500 miles on odometer. Replaced motor under Hyundai warranty.
102000 mi Hyundai has a engine recall notice to check engines for malfunctions. This was free of charge. It was done at dealer with oil change. Oil change was no charge because of the engine check. This is for the 2.4 engines in Sonata's.

159-horsepower 2.4L I4 Hybrid 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD

22000 mi (Hybrid) High voltage battery was over charging - replaced HV battery and voltage control modual (under warranty). 22,092 miles $6700 estimated charge back
6200 mi Hybrid system fault lights keep coming on. No codes in memory. The faults cause the Hybrid system to shut down completely. Repairs still not completed.
6200 mi The water pump for the Hybrid electric motor failed and had to be replaced
6600 mi Well after several trips and several days of troubleshooting the dealer replaced the generator. This unit transfers gas engine energy to the storage batteries.
11740 mi Generator from engine to Hybrid system battery stopped working
21200 mi Took in for routine Maint. & oil change. Dealer found oil pan seal failed & leaking said extremely unusual for this engine replaced gasket and resealed oil pan.
59000 mi The hybrid battery alert came on - it said "stop driving car" - looked this up online and other people have experienced it. From seeing what others' experiences were (dealers not even being aware of the warning existing) never mind having any idea how to diagnose, we traded off the car and got a Chevrolet Volt.
