Little Things Mean a Lot One Year In A member from Missouri, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Powertrain performance Acceleration is best in class for non-turbo, 4-cylinder engine. I appreciate car's ability to quickly pass on two lane roads. Transmission is among best I have experienced. People who drive my car swear it has a 6-cylinder engine. Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Handling Ride is noticeably harsh in comparison to Fusion, Altima and Accord. Suspension is loud, also. I'm not found of OEM 205/65-16 tires. Front tires can lose traction suddenly when exiting from Interstate at too high speed. Car performs poorly in even light snow. I'm reminded of Sonata's vague on-center steering feel whenever I drive another mid-size car. Great, but skip the turbo if you drive in the city A member from New York, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Powertrain performance Excellent acceleration, smooth and pleasant engine. Transmission shifts smoothly and usually selects correct gear on its own. The paddle shifters are pleasant but not necessary. Regular unleaded requirement is great with high fuel prices, but the downside is terrible city fuel economy, even with a pretty light foot. Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Fuel economy Dreadful fuel economy. For long highway drives, the Sonata Turbo can indeed match the 34 mpg EPA rating, but for city driving with A/C, you'll be lucky to get any more than 17 mpg. Even with A/C off, the urban mileage never hits the 20 mpg level. Only 2,700 miles on the engine so far, so this may get better, but the EPA city estimate seems to be pegged too high by Hyundai. A member from Maryland, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Fuel economy With just over 1400 miles so far, it is averaging 28.3mpg combined with the eco option turned off. It has the eco drive option which works well in sustained at speed driving but lags in demanding driving situations. Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Powertrain performance A bit underpowered but comparison is against a Maxima 3.5L. Still is fairly peppy and can be aggressive when needed. A member from Georgia, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Sonata: Handling The SE Turbo Sonata out handles and powers most cars and all in it's class. It has a sport-tuned suspension and steering system ONLY on the SE's and deleted on Limiteds. I also drive a 370Z Nissan and it handles much like it, honestly. 30mpg avg.
