Reliability and Durability of the Hyundai Sonata: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr Sedan 198-horsepower 2.4L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
I have owned several new cars in my life - the 2013 Sonata is the first car with Zero issues - zip zero zilch - in the first year of ownership. It just works perfectly each and every time.
2013 4dr Sedan 198-horsepower 2.4L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
So far the car has been great. I had a 2011 Sonata (which is the identical car) and put over 90,000km on it and then traded for the exact same car (a 2013) which now has 36000km. I have had no warrantee work done the either vehicle.
2012 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.0L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
This car is not as reliable as japanese counterparts. Many isues since I bought car on 2011. Mainly A/C, Panroramic roof, and suspension problems. Hyundai could also do much better into training personnel to repair cars without so many visits to dealer. Seems not enough training into is put into repairing their products. I do not recommend this car (Sonata 2.0T) to anyone, since there are many other choices with better reliability and better service. I have owned: Lexus (best), Honda, Toyota. All these cars where much better in terms of reliability.

Reputation for reliability and quality.
2009 4dr Sedan 249-horsepower 3.3L V6
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Long track record of major component reliability. The car will last without major issues for 5 years -statistically.
2009 4dr Sedan 175-horsepower 2.4L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Warranty: bumper to bumper for 5 years/60,000 miles.
2009 4dr Sedan 175-horsepower 2.4L I4
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
So Far so good with 13,000 miles. Knock on wood.
2008 4dr Sedan 162-horsepower 2.4L I4
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Long warranty and above average reliability according to many sources.

2009 4dr Sedan 249-horsepower 3.3L V6
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Suspension noises, Burning Rubber smell thrtough air vents, Faulty Electronics. So far; I am not please with the R & D of the car as I have spent over 23 Hours in the service waiting area in 6 Motnhs.
2006 4dr Sedan 235-horsepower 3.3L V6
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
if you are not the original owner i would sell before 90k miles
2004 4dr Sedan 138-horsepower 2.4L I4
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
average at best. i never had as many repairs that were not simple wear-and-tear than on this vehicle.
