Infiniti FX Preferred

2004 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 280-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

2007 Acura MDX

4dr SUV 300-horsepower 3.7L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Infiniti FX?

Front seat comfort: More thigh support for taller driver

Reliability & durability: Fewer non-maintenance trips to shop than MDX

Past personal experience: Overall good. Good experience with Infiniti. Good experience with Dealer. Good experience with car. Not perfect, but better than Acura.

Price or payments: Lower. I got more tech with the MDX, but FX's generally cost less than a comparably equipped MDX.

Why Not the Acura MDX?

Front seat comfort: Not enough thigh support.

Price or payments: Higher than FX

Reliability & durability: Multiple trips to shop

Past personal experience: Multiple shop trips. Having to buy entire packages for one appealing feature (automatic liftgate). Expensive. Acura dealer/shop not conveniently located.

Infiniti FX Not Preferred

2006 Ford Explorer

4dr SUV 292-horsepower 4.6L V8 6-speed automatic 4WD w/low range

2005 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 280-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Ford Explorer?

Powertrain performance: I can tow 7000 lbs of horse trailer and carry a large package in the interior. Trip mileage, sans the trailer, is in the 20-22 mpg range. good acceleration and the 6-speed transmission is pretty smooth.

Past personal experience: I have always had good success with Ford trucks in terms of capability, reliability and dependability.

Cargo capacity & towing: I can tow a 7000 lb horse trailer with a mid-size SUV! Right sized vehicle with the tow capacity I needed

Available features: Heated memory seats, flat load floor, easy fold seats in second and third row. Audiophile radio with Satellite is great! Everything still works after 2+ years.

Discounts & incentives: They made the Eddie Bauer very affordable off the lot.

Why Not the Infiniti FX?

Cargo capacity & towing: I needed more towing capability than that of the FX-35, so I traded it for the Explorer. In addition, the cargo area was too small for the dog crate that fits nicely in the Explorer.

Infiniti FX Pros and Cons

2008 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 275-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Infiniti FX?

Exterior styling: Unique design. Aggressive and "mean" looking in my opinion. While it's a bit "bubbly" especially in the rear, the front end and grill are just cool to look at.

Handling: Coming from a 2005 Acura TL, this SUV felt the closest in terms of sportiness and handling compared to a sports sedan. It's bigger and heavier, but still has a sporty feel.

Front seat comfort: Longest drive was 6 hours and had no discomfort whatsoever. Have ridden for 4 hours in a Toyota Rav4 and was almost in pain after an hour.

Brand reputation & image: It's nice to get compliments on a regular basis.

Why Not the Infiniti FX?

Fuel economy: Averaging 18 mpg. Not horrible, but not great either. With gas prices having doubled since the start of my lease, I try and minimize driving outside my commute and necessary errands.

Cargo capacity & towing: While the cargo area just fits my dog crate and has worked out overall, some more room would be nice or a small 3rd row seat.

Quietness: I don't dislike the engine roar, but wind and road noise on the highway are very apparent compared to my previous TL.

2007 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 275-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Infiniti FX?

Handling: drives and handles just like my G35 coupe...just can't take the corners as fast.

Reliability & durability: this is my second infiniti. owned them for 5 years. best i've ever had.

Exterior styling: nothing like it on the road. really stands out.

Interior styling: sophisticated, yet not gaudy

Powertrain performance: drives just like my G35 coupe. great exhaust sound. plenty of power.

Why Not the Infiniti FX?

Rear seat room & comfort: the rear seats are great for kids, but not for adults. not lots of leg room. head and shoulder room is fine.

2007 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 275-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Infiniti FX?

Reliability & durability: Proven drivetrain

Brand reputation & image: Luxurious & Sporty wrapped in a nice pkg

Powertrain performance: Smooth, powerful & excited exhaust note

Available features: Lots of luxury & safety feature (standard & optional)

Exterior styling: Daring & pushing the envelope of extraordinary

Why Not the Infiniti FX?

Cargo capacity & towing: Not great if you have alot of stuff but it fits me & my dog perfect

2004 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 315-horsepower 4.5L V8 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Infiniti FX?

Handling: Sports car like performance

Powertrain performance: The FX45 (with V8 engine) has some quirks like engine knocking after short startup and shutdown. V6 FX35 does not have this issue.

Reliability & durability: No problems in the first 3 years, but had to replace the rear view mirror motors for $350 and am about to fix the passenger side door lock for $400. Car is now over 4 years old with 80,000 miles.

Why Not the Infiniti FX?

Powertrain performance: The FX45 (with V8 engine) has some quirks like engine knocking after short startup and shutdown. V6 FX35 does not have this issue.

Ride smoothness: It is a somewhat stiff ride and a little loud. Proper tires selected for ride and quietness help some.

Fuel economy: 18 miles per gallon on average.

2004 Infiniti FX

4dr SUV 280-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the Infiniti FX?

Exterior styling: Aggressive, edgy styling. Definitely thinking "outside" the typical SUV box.
