Introduction

Just test drove a 2013 Jeep Patriot.

Reviewed: 2013 Jeep Patriot

4dr SUV 172-horsepower 2.4L I4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD

Why the 2013 Jeep Patriot?

Interior styling

Looks much more expensive than my 2009 patriot's interior. Very rich, good quality, great design. Looks even more expensive than this cheapest jeep is. Perhaps the best interior for my taste, comparable (in cheaper comparable vehicles) only with nissan rogue and subaru impreza/forester/xv. Very pleasant place to be for long drives. Drove the jeep for 3 hours, didn't want to stop. Folding front passenger seat is a real treat - you can put your snowboard inside without any problem. :)

Exterior styling

It looks stil like a jeep, and this is beautiful in my eyes. Almost everything on the market looks like a freaking rocket ship. Jeep patriot has a style, and very tasteful, outside and inside. It's pleasant to my eye. Approach, break-over and departure angles are definitely the best for CUVs. And please stop calling Patriot an SUV - it is not. Neither truck-based SUV like nissan xterra, nor car-based SUV like nissan pathfinder. Patriot is an CUV - it is small, nimble and practical, basically, a raised hatchback, like toyota rav4, honda crv, subaru forester, etc.

Fuel economy

Better fuel economy than my 2009 patriot - noticeable right away.

Past personal experience

Almost 5 years of a reliable service by our 2009 jeep patriot. We also owned 2007 patriot, and loved it.

Insurance cost

Perhaps one of the most practical vehicles insurance-wise in Canada: one of the cheapest to insure, even my insurance broker noticed that.

Why Not the 2013 Jeep Patriot?

Quietness

The engine is basically the same engine as in Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage - this is a Hyundai-Mitsubishi-Chrysler designed so called World Engine. It is very reliable, but quite noisy.

Dealer practices

Most Chrysler dealerships make Chrysler bad reputation, from my experience. They don't know how to appreciate customer. They don't know their own vehicles. Luckily, there are many independent shops who know jeeps pretty well, and there is tons of info online.

Conclusion

In summary: great vehicle, very underestimated by general public, but very well appreciated by owners and enthusiasts - just checked the famous jeeppatriot dot com forums.
