4dr SUV 174-horsepower 2.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2005 Land Rover Freelander?

Exterior styling

It is very angular, looking like a small Discovery. Comes in a choice of several attractive colors. Styling is a little different and makes a statement.

Interior styling

Except for the dash, which looks cheap, the materials and finish inside is very nice. It gives the feel of an English car such as Jaguar, which is out of its price range by rather a lot.

Handling

For an SUV, it drives very well. Reviewers described it when new as a sporty car disguised as an SUV. It corners and drives far better than its competitors of the time. Slight oversteer when pressed is always predictible. It is a size for most uses.

Brand reputation & image

Land Rover is an upscale brand, with more prestige than the competitors in this class. And its English.

Ride smoothness

The ride is very car-like for such a reasonably priced vehicle. It compares favorably to even far more expensive vehicles form BMW. You can travel long distances without getting tired.

Why Not the 2005 Land Rover Freelander?

Reliability & durability

My Freelander has been utterly trouble free. From my understanding, that makes it the exception. Many people report many engine and coolant problems.

Powertrain performance

The engine needs more power, and the transmission is not very responsive or smooth-shifting. These are the 2 biggest flaws in the car.
