Reviewed: 2007 Lexus GS

4dr Sedan 292-horsepower 3.5L V6 Hybrid 6-speed shiftable CVT RWD

Why the 2007 Lexus GS?

Interior styling

Clear layout of controls Ease of use Excellent, supportive front seats, which stay comfortable on long drives Buttons for main functions integrated well with touchscreen for everything else

Powertrain performance

Hybrid drivetrain minimises pause between pressing the gas pedal and actual acceleration Strong low rev torque Low speed operations performed mostly on battery power alone Engine cutting out in stop and go traffic Sufficient overtaking reserves

Fuel economy

Low consumption in city and stop and go traffic Significant fuel savings in typical German highway driving - plenty of acceleration to and braking from high speeds. The hybrid drivetrain minimises the cost of this compared to conventional petrol power

Materials & workmanship

Materials are nice to the touch Material quality does not visibly deteriorate in less visible areas Excellent integration of leather into areas, where you are likely to touch it (knee support on centre tunnel)

Reliability & durability

No faults so far Good word of mouth on reliability Above average warranty offering, which allays fears of reliability problems

Why Not the 2007 Lexus GS?

Cargo capacity

The hybrid drivetrain makes the boot relatively small Standard luggage just about does not fit No ability to extend luggage space by folding rear seats and / or the front passenger seat
