Mini Cooper Fuel Economy: Pros
Year Body/Powertrain Comment
2011 2dr Hatch turbocharged 181hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD The marketed fuel efficiency ratings are somewhat accurate. In city driving, I'm getting the "rated" 27 mpg. That rate, however, decreases as idle times (red light, stop sign, stuck in traffic, warming up the engine, etc.) increases. The 36 highway mpg can only be achieved if you stick between 65-70 mph, even on sixth gear. Regardless, getting relatively high fuel efficiency from a car that such a joy to drive is one of it's best selling points.
2010 2dr Hatch 121-hp 1.6L I4 6-sp shiftable automatic FWD 41mpg combined!
2009 2dr Hatch 121-hp 1.6L I4 6-sp shiftable automatic FWD as a daily commuter, over 30 mpg is great
2009 2dr Hatch turbocharged 181hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD Best mpg I've had in a car, solid 33 just about everywhere I go.
2009 2dr Hatch 121-hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD With the 09 Cooper (not the S model), it was easy to get over 40mpg on 55mph roads. On 70mph highways, it was more like 35mpg. Was wonderful to fill up and see over 500 miles of range.
2009 2dr Hatch turbocharged 208hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD I get an average of 29+MPG around town with the air conditioning turned on. I have got 34mpg on a 200 mile trip on country roads and I just did 404.9 miles at 85/90mph A/C on with a 300 pound passenger on I-95 and got 32.4mpg. This is all normal driving.
2008 2dr Hatch 121-hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD What is not to like about 40 mpg. Granted, I do mostly highway miles, but even with my city driving mixed in, I am still getting close to 40 overall (39.5 to be exact).
2006 2dr Hatch supercharged 168hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD Great for a sports car.
2006 2dr Hatch supercharged 168hp 1.6L I4 6-sp manual FWD Average over the cars lifetime is 26MPG. Not stellar, but damn good. Credit the light weight for positives on this and the handling and performance categories.
2005 2dr Hatch 115-hp 1.6L I4 5-sp manual FWD 37 mpg on freeway, 34 mpg around town.
