2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Mazda MX-5 2007 - I love it by xtalfu

I've been driving this car for almost 6 years. It's a pleasure to drive top down and even top up. You feel the road as much as you see it.
The car is very reliable and extremely cheap to maintain. MPG is good. It's not suited to long trips (not much room for the passenger and the luggage, loud).
Handling
The biggest selling point of the car. It keeps you informed of what's happening. Very precise steering, precise and very powerful brakes. 100% grin factor.
Powertrain performance
The gearbox is fantastic. The engine is lively - but more flexible than aggressive.
Reliability & durability
Knock on wood - the Miata has proven totally reliable so far.
The maintenance bills are very low, and the Mazda dealer service is good.
Exterior styling
It's a convertible. It's not about the looks. It's about the pleasure of driving with the top down - you feel the wind, visibility is total. Great
Front seat room
It's OK for the driver, but there's not much room for the feet of the passenger.
Interior styling
styling is nice. But the plastics are very easily scratched. I replaced the gear know, the handbrake lever with metal + aluminum Mazda parts, and the gear level and handbrake boots with leather boots made in Japan by Liberal. It's an improvement but it only partially masks the cheap feeling of the interior.
Tires
OEM tires (Yokohama) are not great under heavy rain. Replaced them with Continentals.
Quietness
the textile hood is thin (no insulation, no liner) that the car is very loud on the freeways (you hear the noise of the trucks very well, and it's a bit scary).
I don't regret it. I wish the next one keeps the qualities intact (handling, gearbox, simplicity) but adds just a bit more grunt, and just a bit more space inside and a better hood (with liner and insulation). Great car.
