What Our Members Are Saying about the Real Gas Mileage of the Mazda Mazda2

Mazda Mazda2 Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 2dr Hatch 100-horsepower 1.5L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Combined city and highway always returns over 34mpg. However on strictly highway driving the mpg shoots up to above 38mpg. With a 11 gallon fuel tank this translates to well over 320 miles per tank of gas. see full Mazda Mazda2 review
2011 4dr Hatch 100-horsepower 1.5L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Between the manual transmission and the suspension, it's easy to drive the Mazda2 like a (tiny) racecar. Despite this and flooring it on every on ramp, I manage to get 30 MPG in mostly city driving. Highway trips net higher (35-38 MPG at 70-75 MPH), but a lot of uphill sections will drag the fuel economy down. Looking at fuelly.com, users are averaging 34 MPG. Not the best, but the Mazda2 achieves this with a much higher smiles-per-mile ratio than comparable B segment cars. I'm extremely satisfied with the gas mileage that I get, considering my driving style. see full Mazda Mazda2 review
Mazda Mazda2 Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Hatch 100-horsepower 1.5L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
See postive comments for the cons. Fuel economy is OK, but for a car of this size and engine, I would have expected 2 more mpg than the average 32 that we get around town. see full Mazda Mazda2 review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Real Gas Mileage of the Toyota Yaris

Toyota Yaris Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2010 4dr Sedan 106-horsepower 1.5L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
It gets amazing fuel economy, I drive it daily to and from work, constant city driving mainly, I use about 20$ a week in regular gas. see full Toyota Yaris review
2010 4dr Sedan 106-horsepower 1.5L I4
5-speed manual FWD
I am an ultra light foot driver and can consistently get 42-46 mpg in the spring or fall when I can have the A/C off. During the summer I can get about 41-42 mpg and because of our below zero winters I get into the upper 30s for mpg. Overall year round my average mpg is 41.7. The key seems to be the aerodynamics of the 4 door sedan and the manual transmission. Not sure why this car is not rated at better mpg. Could be it is driver style sensitive in that a lead foot driver can get terrible gas mileage and a light foot driver can get easily into the 40s for mpg. I have driven this car 52000 miles to this date April 2013. I use this car to commute to work which includes rush hour traffic. I have also used this car to go cross country from the midwest to Florida. Total MPG so far 41.68. see full Toyota Yaris review

2009 2dr Hatch 106-horsepower 1.5L I4

It had the highest EPA estimates in the price range I was looking at. see full Toyota Yaris review
2008 4dr Sedan 106-horsepower 1.5L I4

The fuel economy was, at the time of purchase, the best of any car in its class. see full Toyota Yaris review

2008 2dr Hatch 106-horsepower 1.5L I4

Have gotten as high as 43 mpg on highway so long as I stay at or below 65 mph. At higher speeds, fuel economy seems to reduce to 39 mpg. see full Toyota Yaris review
2008 4dr Sedan 106-horsepower 1.5L I4
5-speed manual FWD
I do a lot of in-town driving with spurts of long distance driving. After having owned a minivan, the Yaris is exceptionally fuel economic in comparison. see full Toyota Yaris review

Have never got less than 37.5 mpg in mixed driving. see full Toyota Yaris review

2008 2dr Hatch 106-horsepower 1.5L I4

Given its size, should have a better rating. During my test drives (and several rentals), consistently performed worse than EPA estimates, even using a light foot. see full Toyota Yaris review
