Adequate, but no more, for a large 6 footer. see full Mazda Mazda2 review

The rear seats are pretty good but the headrests are poorly executed. They either poke the passenger in the back or put their head in an uncomfortable position. see full Mazda Mazda2 review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Powertrain of the 2011 Mazda Mazda2

2011 Mazda Mazda2 Powertrain: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Hatch 100-horsepower 1.5L I4
5-speed manual FWD
OK, so 100 HP isn't anything to write home about. The torque curve is pretty flat with a bump at its peak around 4000 RPM, so you'll get nearly the same pulling power everywhere on the tach. Another 20 HP would make excursions up to 6000 RPM more rewarding. The manual transmission is really the star of the powertrain package. It's a joy to snick into place and the ability to quickly drop 2-3 gears makes up for the engine's relatively low output. The clutch is low effort and the shift pattern is simple, which are perfect for city driving. see full Mazda Mazda2 review

When I purchased this car I was concerned the 100hp engine would not be up to the task, especially when accelerating on the highway. My fears proved to be unfounded. That said I think my choice of manual transmission allows me to wring out the most performance. So far the car has more than met my expectations and has been able to keep up with any traffic at most highway speeds. I typically cruise at 120-130 kmph and lane changes are no problem either. see full Mazda Mazda2 review

6300 redline is kind of low especially when the power really comes in above 3500 RPM. This requires frequent shifting. Clutch is really light and has a cushioning feel in the bottom 1/3 so it takes a bit to get used to. Could use an extra 20 hp/lb-ft. see full Mazda Mazda2 review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Tires of the 2011 Mazda Mazda2

2011 Mazda Mazda2 Tires: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Hatch 100-horsepower 1.5L I4

The OEM tires only lasted about 22,000 miles. I replaced them with the (nearly) identical aftermarket version of the low rolling resistance tires. The ride was slightly harsher, but they certainly are lasting a lot longer. It would have been nice if Mazda would have put the replacement tires on in the first place. I assume they do this so that the smoothest possible ride is offered to potential buyers. see full Mazda Mazda2 review
