Reviewed: 2006 Mazda Mazda5

4dr Minivan 157-horsepower 2.3L I4 5-speed manual FWD

Why the 2006 Mazda Mazda5?

Fuel economy

Better than any other 6 seat vehicle or minivan (at least on paper), and the only one available with a manual transmission.

Rear seat room & comfort

Sliding doors make getting children in/out of safety seats a breeze compared to a small car, and the middle row seats are adjustable fore-aft, which is also a bonus over an economy car.

Handling

Tight in the corners, a plenty of control for safety - "zoom zoom"

Safety & braking

The brakes are oversized for the vehicle, so it has very controlled stops. It also came with side air bags for all three rows and ABS standard, which were absolute musts for me.

Reliability & durability

I liked that it is made in Japan, which in my previous experience has resulted in very high quality construction and a lack of defects and problems down the road.

Why Not the 2006 Mazda Mazda5?

Dealer practices

Mazda dealers must be the worst in the industry. I have had my 5 in for 3 warranty repairs, and gotten jerked around every time. I may never buy another Mazda product because of the sub standard dealership network.
