2007 Mazda RX-8 Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Owner Pros and Cons by avelectro

Handling
Like a go-cart, the car goes where you point it accurately, immediately and with no hesitation. With too much throttle in a corner the TCS keeps the tail from coming around. I feel very confident driving this car aggressively.
Powertrain performance
Very smooth and expensive feel to the engine. The response is like a turbocharged turbine with a gentle cuttoff at redline.
The six speed auto is very quick to respond to manual or automatic shifts, quiet and has good intelligence.
Front seat support & comfort
Excellent for long trips. Even though I suffer from spinal stenosis, I did a two-day 1800 mile trip with no troubles and felt great on arrival. Most modern cars have comfortable seats, but these also make me feel like I am part of the car.
Driving position & visibility
The 3/4 view requires more head-turning than I am comfortable with, due to my bad spine. Also egress is difficult for a non-agile person.
Insurance cost
Year-end incentives causes higher depreciation for cars purchased earlier in the year. Insurance is almost double that of a V6 sedan.
Fuel economy
The EPA numbers are way low compared with my real-world experience. The window sticker showed 18/25 and I have never seen less than 23 with my 40/60 city/highway commute. I think Mazda should develop a lean-burn economy cruise mode for this car.
