Introduction

Love the diesel.

Reviewed: 2007 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

4dr SUV turbocharged 215hp 3.0L V6 Diesel 7-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2007 Mercedes-Benz M-Class?

Fuel economy

5000 lbs vehicle. Gets 32 mpg on highway up to 75 mph, faster than that mpg drops. 23 to 24 mpg around town

Quietness

Extremely quiet vehicle, even now at 150k + miles

Front seat support & comfort

Can drive this vehicle all day long and not be tired.

Price or payments

Bought used 4 years ago, very inexpensively with 23k miles on it. Put $1800 into repairs over 130k miles, mostly minor things like sensors, oil leaks, etc

Reliability & durability

Been extremely reliable and will go to at least 250 k miles, unless we are unlucky and no sign of that so far (knock on wood).

Why Not the 2007 Mercedes-Benz M-Class?

Audio & nav systems

Poor user interface, can be frustrating.

Controls and instruments

Human engineering not a strong point in this model, improved in later years

Dealer practices

Initially, felt like I was being overcharged and fleeced by service department. With 6 dealerships in the area I work, pointed out that it was easy to bid out maintenance and repairs. Prices are now very reasonable and service department is responsive and could not ask for more.
