Reviewed: 2005 Nissan Murano

4dr SUV 245-horsepower 3.5L V6 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD

Why the 2005 Nissan Murano?

Powertrain performance

Not a speedster, but more than adequate power. I have driven over 20k miles towing a 3500# trailer, total weight with car, 8200#, at 80mph+ on turnpikes, steep mountain back roads and everything in between. It always had more speed available

Cargo capacity

Cargo capacity is a little short for size of car, but a good compromise with interior seating & comfort. The CVT is a near perfect transmission for towing. It provides any required gear change with a smooth flow of power. no jerks when shifting up or dow

Ride smoothness

Very car-like

Rear seat room & comfort

Very roomy

Reliability & durability

no major problems in 89000 miles

Why Not the 2005 Nissan Murano?

Cargo capacity

Cargo capacity is a little short for size of car, but a good compromise with interior seating and comfort. Towing capacity is limited by unibody construction (no frame) at 3500#. Powertrain could easily handle more.

Fuel economy

Fuel economy is fine for me. I get 22-24mpg without the trailer, a light gas peddle foot, and under 70mph, But if you accelerate fast and drive fast without reguard to MPG you will easily slip into the 18mpg range. With trailer MPG is 13-15.
