Repair shop told me this is a common failure on Pathfinders. Radiator was replaced. I noticed a faint smell of coolant while working on the front suspension. No leaks were apparent. After replacing radiator, the engine temp gauge was reading much lower temperature. The radiator core was partially clogged.
