Check Engine light was on and Transmission was slipping out & back into gear at idle, and was bumping hard when put into Drive. After online research we discovered some dealers were replacing taillights due to some electrical problem in them that affected the transmission. Called Nissan Dealer for appt., but there was a 2 week waiting list. Because of that, and because our car was just 1 month out of the powertrain warranty, I went ahead and ordered both taillight assemblies and while waiting for them to arrive I inspected and cleaned the terminals on each one. The problem seems to have gone away so far (a few months - but not many miles yet) and I haven't yet actually installed the new ones. Still unsure of the repair being permanent as the weather has changed quite a bit since then as well (mostly dryer and warmer), and I've come to learn these cars have troublesome CVT transmissions to begin with. In fact, some others have had to have their transmissions replaced with the same exact symptoms we've experienced. Some have paid up to $4,000 or more from what I understand. At this point the car is probably only worth about $4,000 to $6,000 so might not be worth putting that much money into it. |
