Why the 2003 Pontiac Vibe?

Discounts & incentives

When I bought this Vibe, MSRP $18,690, in 2003 I had a GM Card deal where GM increased my $750 current earnings to $2,003; plus the regular $2,000 rebate, plus a $1,056 delaer discount. Net was $13,631 plus sales tax etc. Could not pass up that deal.

Fuel economy

About as good as it gets for what I describe as a mini-SUV. EPA rated 28/33 at the time. I get 25-26 mpg in driving that is mostly city; on trips 31-32 mpg going 65-70.

Driving position & visibility

Sits you up high like a SUV/minivan. Your legs are more in a sitting position than with a car.

Reliability & durability

It is essentially a Corolla - has same engine and transmission. 5+ years and 31,000 miles with no real problems. Conti tires were replaced under warranty at 20,000 miles; Light swith on rear view mirror broke - got another on eBay cheap.

Cargo capacity

A hatch back with split rear folding seats provides a lot of cargo hauling flexibility. I do not do any towing. A small vehcile with a 1.8L engine is probably not good for towing much.

Why Not the 2003 Pontiac Vibe?

Quietness

Not a "quiet" vehicle (engine/road noise) but also not unusually noisy for a vehicle of this class and price.
